The youngsters jumping in right after junior is awesome.

Hopefully just the beginning of good things from these guys though. For instance I'd like to see Dube take a Point or Barzal type trajectory now that hes jumped right into the show.

Isn’t it a they play opposite sides type thing? Valimaki on the left and Andersson the right?

I imagine Valimaki's draft position and insane junior stats played a factor too

Colour me genuinely shocked. Not because they didn't earn it, because they did. But because if this were any other year we'd see Lazar, Hathaway, Peluso and Prout making the team out of camp no questions asked.

Any idea when we see what jersey numbers they go with? I'm guessing they both change from their camp numbers?

Excellent! They earned the spots for sure.

Valimaki was the best option, regardless of stick handedness, imo.

I imagine Valimaki takes his junior/national team number 6.

To be honest, our AHL pipeline hasn't exactly been pumping out superstars so might as well bring them in now. Happy to hear as a fan...

It means he's the first D call-up, easily.

For sure it all plays a factor but all things being equal, Flames are better off if Andersson wins that spot this year. He didn't. For the spot that was available, Valimaki outplayed him.

If a right side defense spot had been available, we might be looking at a different answer.

And it's early.

I echo your sentiments.

I wonder why? When did Burke leave the team and could this be a 'shift in management style'?

Color me pleasantly surprised.

There'll be some growing pains with each to be sure, but I think this is the right place for both to develop.

Trading away Kulak is a big demonstration of faith by BT. At least one NHL spot is open for a rookie, but with injuries throughout the year, very well could carry 2+ during the season. This is exciting today, but will continue to be exciting all year!

Valimaki might still be on a short leash for the first 9 games. I didn't think Andersson looked any worse. Good to have competition, especially on those bottom lines.

Are the Flames finally following the "Always earned, never given" motto?

This really is outstanding news. The Flames did the right thing and made room for not just one player, but two, who clearly deserved to be with the big team. Looking forward to seeing Andersson up with the club as well, as he showed he's ready as well. Good problem to have!
