Looking pretty good for my prediction that formenton scores more points than Lazar this year....

Assuming the Flames do send Kulak, Peluso, Lazar down if they clear, they only need to make 1 cut on defence and 1 cut in goal to make a 14f 7d 2g roster.

Which implies both Dube and Mangipane made the opening day roster and one of Valimaki and Andersson made it too. Rittich the likely backup.

Of course the Flames can still waive players tomorrow before the roster deadline.

Probably because Toronto doesn't want him.

you think Treliving of all people hasn't worked the phones?

This team is going to do well......I’d like to keep looking at Goalies however as something doesn’t seem right still . Just a gut feeling .

I’ll never forget when we just got Kipper and then he tweaked his knee and came back with a vengeance and we all realized “holy moly” who is this guy....he’s amazing .....and was just sitting and waiting and Darryl snapped him up.

Did it sting when Girgensons made the Sabres? NHL All Star Girgensons?

Lazar is not a surprise. The kid has a good motor and skates hard but he just doesn't have the offensive talent to be an NHLer. Maybe a year in the AHL he can work on his puck handling and finishing. But his time is running out.

Kulak has been surpassed by Valimaki, but that doesn't mean he can't still he an NHLer. I assume he clears waivers but he'll be back if there are any injuries on the left side.

Flames are definitely sending the right message this year. Valimaki and Dube have earned a spot in the NHL, at least to start the season. Mangiapane is right there as well. Andersson is probably too good for the AHL but he needs to work on his skating. I could see him getting sent down to start the season and being the first call up if there are any injuries on the right side.

Lots of internal competition this year.

So Dube, Hathaway, and Mangiapane survive. Probably one more F cut?

Valimaki, Prout, and Andersson still survive. 1 more D cut too?

Thumbs up to Treliving on this one. It takes guts to put Lazar on waivers after giving up a second for him, but fear to own up to a mistake usually costs teams.

We should keep in mind waivers doesn't mean a player is going down. Treliving might just be creating some flexibility leading to tomorrows deadline so he can make a trade or waiver claim.

He probably has, but he also waived Paul Byron before trying to sneak him through and we all know how that went.

Thought for sure they would keep Peluso (for punchin'). Very pleasantly surprised.

Sucks if we lose one of them but I'm glad they are waiving based on merit rather than the safe route.

Making the Sens is no great badge of honour, but still, it turned out to be a bad trade.

It seems that our collection of first rounders from the weakest draft in recent memory is continuing to dwindle. Not that I have anything against the members remaining on the team.

I thought the 2013 draft was pretty good. Lots of great players out of that first round.

Treliving and Peters are trying something we haven't seen before (or at least not for decades): offense from every line and pairing.

It used to be you had a scoring line, a secondary scoring line and a couple lines that were a mixture of "defense"and facepunching. Then you had a offensive pair, a shut down pair and a "hope you don't get scored on" pair. Now it seems there's a player that would be considered an offensively minded player on every line and pairing.

It may not work, but will sure be exciting

Yeah Zach Kassian went on a bender and ended up in rehab opening up a forward spot on the Habs. How could Treliving not see that coming?
