Bingo, Locke and a radio pro like Jiri or Blaster would be great. The expert to keep things moving, Bingo for the detailed insights, and Locke for the one liners and bombastic-ness. Sub in CC for Locke every so often for other craziness.

Edit: and besides the normal guest spots they could do a weekly Calgaryboy call to get the Czech perspective.

This is just a gut feeling, but I have the sense Rhett does zero prep for the show - just shows up and wings it? Gets by on his charm. I think most radio people do 1-2 hours prep for every hour they are on the air.

Speaking of which. I wonder how much personalities like Hrudey, Warrener, and even Dreger makes. Or a host like James Duthie. Anyone have a guess as to the range?

I remember reading about this when Jay and Dan left for the states. Something like the top sports TV personalities in Canada make just over 6 figures, so the pay raise to the states was staggering. No idea how accurate that is.

I loved listening to him on (I think) the HNIC show on Sirius XM. That was an excellent hockey show.

I used to work in broadcasting so I will take my best guess but I could be way off. I am doubting Warrener makes a ton at a station like Fan 960. But people like McKenzie, Friedman, or Duthie are probably making well into the 6 figures. They would have a lot of offers coming their way competitively. I am sure the Athletic has even come their way.

Didn't TSN give all their personalities contract extensions & big raises to go with them to keep them from jumping to Rogers when they got the NHL deal?

I probably don’t mind him in real life but he’s a pretty bad colour man. Talks way too much about goalies in relation to everything else.

But could they keep up with the staggering comedic wit of one Dean "Boomer" Molberg?

There are few who can.

I'm absolutely loving how Pinder pushes back against Wills in the daily Flames round table. He did it to some extent when they had their daily 9:00 a.m. segment, and I'm glad he's kept at it now that he's on afternoons.

So has Nault officially taken over for Pinder on Boomer & Warrener now? Or is there a rotation going on.

Nault to me seems like an odd choice if so. He's got a great broadcasting voice and seems to be decent at what he does, but the morning show is so chirpy and Nault seems to take it all personal whenever he gets playfully jabbed. Which to me inherently makes him a poor fit for that particular show.

I've actually barely listened since Pinder got moved to afternoons. Love all the morning show guys, but I discovered it in 2015 so all I've ever known is Pinder on there, just seems weird without his energy. I feel they're gonna get too grumpy without his presence. Loving the Pinder & Steinberg afternoons on my drive home though.

Rob and pat just let wills toe the company line without challenging him but pinder doesn't give a damn, pretty much the best part of him being on in the afternoon

I personally can’t stand Nault and think he is terrible. He sounds drunk when he talks so I do disagree about him having a great voice. I typically don’t like his takes either and when he is filling in on a show it is tough for me to listen.

Of all the filler guys I would take Klein over Nault but also wouldn’t mind if they found an upgrade from outside.

I think some of the salaries being discussed here are a little on the low side for some of the personalities. If I had to guess for local and national guys it's as follows.

Fan 960 Morning Show guys like Boomer and Pinder (when he was morning show) $80k with some added cash coming from live events and other perks with good value (tickets, cars, merchandise etc)

Boomer has joked that Warrener works like 20% of the hours but makes double the salary of the other guys. This leads me to believe he is probably $150k a year. He used to be part time and than became full time with lots of vacation time. Million dollar athletes probably don't roll out of bed at 5 am for $60k a year. $150k with benefits seems like a reasonable income to take care of enough expenses that its worth it without a lot of sacrifice.

Top guys like McKenzie at TSN, Friendman at HNIC and Sportsnet are well into the $1 million range. They do lots of tv, radio, media, podcast and writing for their networks.

Guys like Ron McLean probably were able to get a nice little boost when the Strombo experiment went south and he added hosting duties again. He might be $1.5- $2 mil since he is so loved and known and plays into the brand for both sponsors and Rogers.

I think a guy like Don Cherry probably had a paycut from the new Rogers deal as his utilization during the regular season and playoffs is lower. Either they told him we pay you less for less work or he said I am willing to do X amount of shows a year in return for X dollars. He might be in the $600k a year range now. I don't see a company like Rogers throwing a million bucks to a guy who talks once a week for 5 minutes and rubs a LOT of viewers the wrong way in 2018. I love him like no other but some of his gig doesn't SOUND good in 2018 with SOME people with the comments about race, nationality, support the troops, Jesus at Christmas and Easter etc. Like I said, I love him!

Here is a link from 2007 that highlights some salaries that I just came across!

Yeah I like Klein better too on the morning show. Klein's the complete opposite of what I said about Nault with being sensitive to chirps, Klein pretty much welcomes it to the point where he kinda chirps himself TOO much and should dial it back a bit. He's a better fit for that timeslot. Plus he's kind of a goof and talks a bit too much so is perfect for Boomer & Rhett to take jabs at, similar to Pinder.

Either way it's still a significant drop from Pinder in my opinion, that's a big loss for the morning show..but then again it sounded like Boomer & Walks was good, and a lot of people liked Richards before that, so this is nothing new..only to me it is, and I don't like change! Lol

While I agree the morning show got worse when Pinder left, I shudder to think what it will be like next summer when Rhett is away on his annual vacation. I didn't mind Boomer and Pinder as a duo, but Boomer and Nault would be painful. Klein is much better suited for the morning show, and it just seems like Boomer and Rhett (and even Jay) seem to enjoy it more when he's on the show.
