Just curious...
Last year, Bennett had a fantastic pre-season, then opened the season with no points in 16 games.
When people were railing on Bennett for his lack of production, were you there, calmly pointing out how well he performed in the pre-season, and how people should be giving more weight to that fact? Were you giving any weight to that fact?
If Oiler fans want to award Rattie with the Hannu Jarvenpaa Trophy, as the leading scorer in the pre-season, I say 'knock yourselves out!' But as someone who has seen more pre-seasons than he would like to admit, you'll have to excuse me for not joining them in their (premature) excitement.

To be fair, though Bennett looked decent in last year's pre-season, i don't recall him putting up big points. A trend that unfortunately continued into the season.

Not a ton but 4 points in 4 games.
Rattie does play with Mcdavid to at least for last nights hat trick. Early preseason usually has very weak lineups

Look, cant we all just get along and hope that Rattie lights up the League on questionable second assists and gifted goals and then costs the Oilers a ton of money which they dont have, totally destroys their cap and payroll structure and then one day accidentally trips on an underground utility line that causes Rogers' Place to implode?
Ironically some of that is even plausible.

I love that those are the numbers the person has a problem with, but 124 points for McDavid seems perfectly reasonable.
Since the lockout, only one player has put up 124 points (Joe Thornton scored 125 in the high-scoring 2005-06 season). In the last 10 seasons, the highest point total in one season is 113, by Malkin in 2008-09.

I think McDavid getting 124 is a lot more likely than Rattie and Klefbom combining for 117.

Who knows, but I'd much rather have those guys coming into the season riding high on momentum built from the preseason rather than just playing thru.
I would have been ecstatic to see neal, lindholm, Bennett, Jankowski, ryan have some big preseason games under their belt.

We've had some great performances that tell us enough about what these guys can do, and that's enough really.
This is where the Oilers do pre-seasons wrong. We won't even remember what happened in two months.
Reading into pre-season stats is a complete waste of time. Whatever they've accomplished gets wiped on October 3rd and they have to prove it all over again against NHL lineups with real points up for grabs.
I'd rather our top players save all their output for the real games.

The seasonal Oilers hype train reaches full speed once again in the end of September only to go off rails in a month or so.
Hard to have faith in humanity when the same people fall for it over and over and over again. Or maybe it's a testament to the human spirit and how hope dies last?
Honestly, I don't know which it is. What I do know is that E=NG2

I'd be all on board with him potting 60 points and signing 8 X 8 with the Oilers, even without the unfortunate utility line accident. After all, he is a Calgary boy.

I'm willing to put money on McDavid having a sub 100 > 82 point season.
Its easy for a guy to put up points when winning isn't important. But teams are going to go hard after a line of McDavid Nuge and Rattie.
I'm also willing to bet that the Oilers end up stacking their top line with Draisaitl Nuge and McDavid by the 20 game point of the season when things aren't working.

I would just like to take the opportunity to say that, a few years ago at the "Play On" tournament (CrossIron Mills), Ty Rattie played goal for a team made up of him and his friends.
My team (a "Teacher-Team" comprised of me and six of my out of shape teacher-friends) met Goalie Ty and his team in the quarter-finals. They were pretty dismissive of us and were seemingly confident of certain victory. We went to "OT" in this game, which meant "direct to shootout".
Despite me being 15 years older than the newest Oiler golden boy, I somehow managed to convert a sick deke (my go-to is the "Shean Donovan": come in on the forehand, sell the move to the backhand, but then quickly return to forehand, roof) on him. (My teacher-buddy subsequently sealed the deal and we headed to the Semis, 2-0 shootout winners).
Why share this story, you may ask? Who cares?
And because E = NG

Reddit account names are so fantastic.
There was a post to /r/Canada a couple years ago (one of few that wasn't completely toxic) where someone found a tourist's lost go pro, and posted a picture to try and find the owner. Which worked. So when the Toronto Star wrote about it, they had to include a line that went along the lines of "The camera, found by Reddit user Vanilla_Butthole..."

Also, I only caught part of the segment this morning, but the Fan960 guys were teeing off on Kevin Lowe. Was there any particular reason why, or was it just another chance to play that epic "I think I know a thing or two about winning" clip?

ROFL I played against him as well a few years back and he was playing wing. Don't think he's gonna be lighting up the NHL anytime soon, even as the ass McDavid shoots pucks off of.

I hate the oilers, but I would take that bet. McDavid is a stud, and is a near lock to get 100+ pts (assuming no injuries).
