His serve has also really turned into hot garbage.

And Felix closes out his biggest ATP level win to date!
With only Tomic and likely Sousa standing in his way to the finals now, this event is looking like the kids coming out party.

Felix will be a better player because his base of play is far more solid and consistent than Denis. Denis might be more like a Stan type of player, capable of disappearing for a while, and for being a huge threat at majors.

Also Felix gets Tomic next after his win today, so good chance to make the SF.

Yeah. Tomic and then either Jaziri or Sousa are very winnable matches. I mean although Sousa and Jaziri are decently ranked, they also very much have some warts which FAA can exploit out of them.

As you stated on the previous page, Chung is recovering slowly from his ankle injury and is not in top form, but this is a huge win for Felix.

A couple more wins for Felix at this tourney will likely guarantee direct entry into the main draw at the Aussie Open. That's quite the carrot.

The field is now pretty weak in Chengdu, so I wouldn't be at all surprised if he does make the final. Even so, he's now up to #124 in the world and it would be hard to fathom him not picking up another 100 points via ATP or Challenger level events before the season ends.
Selfishly I hope he doesn't do too well over the next three weeks so that he still considers coming to the Calgary Challenger next month.

any news on Felix's heart condition? has he taken steps to reduce the occurrence? I will not feel at ease until there's no chance that we see him laid out on the sidelines again with that damn tachycardia problem.

I can't find anything other than his tweet from Felix about a month ago:

Also, Mardy Fish underwent a ablation procedure which appeared to resolve his tachycardia issues.
After an episode one night during the Sony Ericsson Open in Key Biscayne, Florida where his heart pounded and raced as fast as 180 beats per minute, he called 911 and went to a local hospital. He saw several doctors and even tried wearing such a heart monitor. When no specific problem could be isolated, Fish underwent more aggressive diagnosis and treatment.
Dr. Wharton explains that doctors pace the heart through catheters to induce the abnormal rhythm while they closely monitor the electrical activity of all areas of the heart. When they find the faulty tissue, they can ablate, or essentially burn, the small areas of tissue causing the problem. Wharton notes that these procedures have high success rates in eliminating the arrhythmias with low rates of recurrence.

Well that was a dismantling. Tomic takes the 1st set 6-2 in just 26 minutes.
Come on, FAA! Give Tomic a reason to tank and make him pay!
