I did not realize Tkachuk was wearing a letter for this game. Very cool.

I don't quite see people acting in that manner - but even if they are, they're being optimistic and probably just reacting to the overbearing negative group that exists.

Let 'em be optimistic. We're cheering for the team, and it just gets tiring to see negative spins off of an undeniably positive occurrence. I'm not saying don't be critical, because that's what modern fandom sadly is - but the guy had a good game. Enjoy it.

I don't see anyone pencilling him onto the top line. There's just no reason to hate on him, you need to remember that he is younger than most of the players jockeying for places on the bottom six, so he is on a different part of his development curve than they are, and he has already shown more at every level than any of them have (with the exception of Frolik, who is a seasoned NHL veteran). I can almost guarantee you that he will be a bigger impact player in four years than any of Dube, Mangiapane, Frolik, Ryan, or Lazar.

Guy has a good game, and people must swing in with the negativity? Happy times.

Cast him out for a backup...because?

Fans are weird sometimes.

A player on your favourite team scored a game winning goal. What is preventing you from just enjoying that?
Why get excited over a pre season goal? Ty Rattie scored too.

Happy to see but

I've never seen one player's rare goals celebrated like milestones like Bennett's are here. Would rather focus on the larger body of work and push the "told you so" narrative when it starts adding up.

Philips had one too, and another a couple games back. I dont see people going bananas over that. It's great, but it is what it is. Let's see him follow it up then follow that up and so forth.

I don’t think it’s an ‘I told you so’ so much as it is ‘He had a good game. Can we get one day’s respite?’

Have no problem with Bennett’s skills and physicality. I think he has those in spades when he is on. Unfortunately, that doesn’t seem to happen often.

His mental skills and inability to park negative energy when things aren’t going right are the huge issue.
The negative body language and weak play, as a result, need to change.
A strong sports phsycologist may do wonders in strengthening his game.

This. It seems more natural to be optimistic about things you have an interest in.

This would be great if Czarnik keeps up the chemistry with Tkachuk.

I also suspect Ryan may get some looks with how much Peters reportedly loves him.

THIS IS NOT A BENNETT POST. I REPEAT, THIS IS NOT A BENNETT POST.

I was happy with the overall look of the team for a preseason bout. Especially after jet lag and the like. There were absolutely some defensive lapses and guys way out of position, but that's to be expected with a new coach and some new tweaks.

I'm really a fan of the offensive zone creativity. Lots of smart passes, not overdoing it, but zipping it around to get a shot. I appreciated Neal firing away when he had the chance, and Andersson really stood out as a guy who is calm on the offensive blueline and typically makes the smart play. Could definitely be a PP QB in the future.

As long as Peters and the coaches make sure the defensive system is understood by the regular season, this team will at the very least be fun to watch. Worst case, high scoring, stressful games. Best case, this team will dominate and challenge for the division.

Bennett - Jankowski - Frolik could be an excellent fourth line, especially if all 3 of those guys end up killing penalties this year.

I agree with this. There is a big difference so far in offensive zone puck movement and creativity.

Tre has given Peters the horses up front like we haven’t seen since the Keenan years, probably even better, and I hope he coaches to their strengths as we move in to the regular season.

Bold prediction - the Flames lead the league in 20 goal scorers this year

Rittich will be fine once he gets over the jet lag from Chi -- oh wait, nevermind.

Happy to see Bennett hit the scoresheet -- it's nice when your fourth liners can chip in with some offence. Seriously though, Jankowski is the sniper on that line -- has an above average shot and nice hands around the net. Just needs to work on rounding out his game -- if Bennett can bang and crash in the corners and Frolik can play a responsible two-way game, it could be a nice balance while Janko (and Bennett) continue to improve.

Just relax. No one is saying (seriously) that all is forgotten after he scored a preseason goal. We are trying to lighten the mood that’s been directed toward him around here lately and we’re just having some fun.
I can’t believe that this actually needs to be explained...
