I can see why they'd say sorry for your grandson but no.
they must get a ton of requests like this. no way he could fill them all.
I don't care whether I meet him or not... all I'm interested in is getting the picture I bought for my Grandson autographed.
I'm not an autograph hunter.. an autograph hunter would never ask that the celebrity make it out to someone specific... which is exactly what I want...

Something to the effect:

Best Wishes Caeden
Connor McDavid.

My Grandson also lives in Golden will probably be recovering from his surgery at that time so his personally meeting McDavid isn't even in the picture.

Sigh.... people like you are why I stopped posting here.

Just forget it. I knew posting here was a bad idea.

Take it to someone who deals with framing pictures, pop the picture out, mail it to them with the letter, reassemble when you get it back.

I am not trying to be a jerk here at all, but it would seem to me the easiest by a mile would be to spend the extra $100 and buy a signed one. You aren’t asking for a small thing, you want to meet the most famous active hockey player in the world and have him sign a large photo.

Edit. I realize you don’t necessarily need to meet him but you almost have to in order to get what you are looking for.

I don’t know this poster at all, but I’m not sure why people here have to go on the offensive every time. Is the guy suppose to know exactly how to handle it from the beginning? Is he an English major who can write a letter fully explaining what his goal was? He posted for a reason.

I think it was the “meeting Connor” part that seemed odd or off, not the part seeking an autograph. There’s no need to get defensive.

What if you responded to them advising you’d happily leave the photograph somewhere for them to have signed and left for pickup?

I sent an email to Ken King about the fact that I had just named my son's middle name Jarome. I wasn't expecting anything nor did I ask for anything. King forwarded the message to Peter Hanlan and about two weeks later the Flames got Iginla to personally autograph a personal message on a beautiful Iginla picture welcoming my son to the world and congratulating me and my wife on the new member of our family.

I can't speak on what other teams do but the Flames are 1st class in my books!!!!!

Buy a generic signed one, write “best wishes Caeden” on it yourself, the kid will never know.

You might feel guilty about lying to him though....

That defeats the whole purpose of the gift.

Come on now, that’s the last thing he wants to do.

You’re absolutely correct. I’m not saying it’s the best way to go, I’m just saying that fraud is an option here. Desperate times, desperate measures.

Well, I suppose it could be seen as being practical, but at the same time I don't think that option would make it past many people's consciences.

The big difference here is they mailed something in to sign, or mailed a letter and got an autographed response. If the oilers denied a similar request, then yeah, they deserve bashing.

If they mailed a letter to the Flames asking to get their own picture of Gaudreau signed before a game, I'd be amazed if the Flames or any other team would have a different response. Not exactly sure how this makes the oilers entitled.

To the OP, the suggestions of checking out HF, hitting up an oilers practice, or forging it yourself are likely your best options, the the latter likely having the highest success rate.

This is a perfect opportunity really.

Contact the Flames, get a signed Gaudreau photo. The tell your grandson the oilers were a bunch of a-holes and wouldn't accommodate him, but the Flames bent over backwards to get it done.

Boom. Flames fan for life.

Write to his agent and make the request through there.

A bit of a different scenario, but friends in Edmonton played a joke on my son. They somehow got the Oilers to send my son a birthday card signed by Connor McDavid. They must have some connections. It was personalized with my son's name and age.

I don't know how they did it, but it wasn't anything they sent to the Oilers to have signed, or a request to meet any player, so that request would have been easier. It could have been a part of a program they do for their young fans.

My son said it ruined his birthday.

I'm very proud.

I feel badly a very mean post I saw earlier, glad to see it's gone. You know, you can still enjoy being on here, just use the Ignore feature when you need to.

As to the post I saw earlier, come on people, let's have some class, this is a Flames fan forum. Even if someone is a fan of another team, if they are acting in a courteous manner and making well thought-out posts, doesn't the diversity of opinion enrich our experience on the boards?

This doesn't mean we can't ridicule any suggestions that Lucic will double his point production this year because he is 45-60% faster on dry land agility tests. Just no personal attacks please.

You’re doing a really nice thing for your grandson and I applaud your efforts. Best of luck and don’t let the negativity on this board get you down. Wishing your grandson a speedy recovery

Your first problem was buying a photo you should have just painted a really cringe worthy painting of connor looking like jesus or something, bam guaranteed autograph plus a picture of a horrified connor McDavid holding it

I just want to clarify this point..

I said meet Connor because in my mind's eye that's how its done. I'm in my 60's and haven't gotten an autograph since I was a kid. The way it was done when I was a kid was you went to the arena and hung around where the players would leave the building and ask a player for his autograph. It was always done in person if you knew where the player was going to be. That's it.. you gave the player a piece of paper, a book, or a picture, along with a pen and they signed it and gave it back to you. Sorry if my request wasn't clear enough. I wasn't sure what the best procedure was to get the autograph... the goal was the autograph, not meeting McDavid. I don't really care if I never meet McDavid. I just would like to get his autograph... and a personalized one to my Grandson would be preferred.

Last season I saw a bunch of Dallas Stars fans hanging out at the bus on the south side of the building. Maybe they were all asked to move when the players came out.
