Your own concept invalidates your conclusion. You are assuming the social media response represents that majority but in reality its much more likely it represents the vocal minority. If a fan loves the retro what motivation do they have to tweet about it? Fans who dislike it are generally more motivated to complain and some people just love to complain.
You can't really take social media response and assume that it accurately represents the whole population. You think the people who love it on CP are the vocal minority. A lot of us think the haters on twitter are the vocal minority.

People vent on social media. That’s why it’s always so negative. People who like it will drop a like and keep scrolling. People who hate it will vent in the comments. Not to mention most of the comments aren’t complaints about the actual jersey, more just complaints that they already have a retro one and wanted something new.

Love the new (old) jersey....looking forward to getting one.

I find the Facebook/Twitter community, for the Flames especially, to be rather casual and seem to not know much about hockey, or much of anything really. Just really angry and clueless most of the time about call ups, roster moves, trades, etc

Yeah theres a lot of surface fans of the team on Twitter and FB. The type of fans that will catch a game here and there but not have an extensive depth of knowledge of the team. These people just want to be entertained by whatever news that does cross their networking feeds. Retro jerseys are nothing new and exciting so why would you expect these types of people to provide positive feedback.
EDIT: My post reminded me of a Kevin Lowe classic: "There are two types of fans: paying customers and those that just watch the games that we still care about I guess".

The Horsehead’s name is Blasty? I’ve been a fan since the mid 90s and have never heard that until this thread.

Yup. On Twitter, you'll often see people mention "The Ratio", which is the ratio of comments on a tweet compared to the combined number of likes and retweets. The higher that ratio is, the more poorly-received the tweet usually is because when people agree with something, they'll give it a like and move on. When people strongly disagree with something, they'll reply.
Of course, we see the same thing on Calgarypuck. Posts with a lot of Thanks don't often generate a lot of discussion and the posts that generate a lot of discussion usually don't have many Thanks.
As of this post, the Flames tweet about the jerseys has 225 retweets and almost 1100 likes. It only has 147 comments.

Pick the Iginla jersey retirement date from that list. I''m thinking the Isles in Feb because all the other teams are original 6, or rivals.. St Louis is right before Xmas.

I only found out the name Blasty recently, but I love it.
I wonder if anyone in Flames management knows that Scorch took-off with fans.

Make a new retro version of the whites from the same era as the new retro 3rds. Use it as the regular away jerseys.
Take the new retro 3rds, put the flaming C logo on the shoulders and put the horse head on the front. Make this the 3rd jersey. It’s wouldn’t be the same, the but kind of like in this picture.
Then you would be done.
