Arizona in the last four years has pretty similar results in terms of shooting percentage with one outlier year where they were 10th in the league.

In terms of true payroll they are probably in the same boat.

Yes, the title alone is laughable, but let's look at his deep analysis...

Let’s start with issue number one, a lack of opportunity. The Oilers drew the fewest penalties in the league last season going on the man advantage just 210 times. In fact, the Oilers 210 power play opportunities were the lowest total in the league over the past five seasons. They had 86 fewer chances than the league-leading Colorado Avalanche. Why did they draw the fewest penalties? The easy, and only, answer is that referees hold grudges and don’t know how to properly handle the hooking and holding McDavid deals with every single time he’s on the ice.

Yep, thats it. Why would the refs hold a grudge against McDavid and the Oilers? Doesn't matter, shut up, they do.

Lucky for you I have figured out exactly what is happening here, MORE CONNOR MCDAVID.

McDavid was on the ice for 243 of the Oilers 365 power play minutes last season, if you do the math that’s 66% of the time. I think it’s time he starts getting the full super-star treatment A.K.A. “stay out there as long as you damn well please”.

Inmates running the asylum? Sure let Connor dictate his PP time and make the PP decisions. That makes sense.

If the Oilers can get McDavid on the ice for 75% of their power play time this season everything will be fine. McDavid finished with 20 power play points last year, I’d expect him to almost double that number in 18-19 which would go a long way in his push to a 120-point campaign.

So going from 66% PP time to 75% will net a 200% increase in points, and that's all the Oilers need to succeed! It's so easy!

I remember when that grudge caused them to no-call Gaudreau when he was hacked and dragged down and call a PS in favour of McDavid on something that wasn't even a penalty the very next play.

I remember a friend of mine who's an Oilers fan (Well he's not a friend really, I keep him around because he knows how to fix tickets). And his common complaint was that the Oilers didn't get enough powerplays.


I told him that the bottom line is that hard work draws penalties and the Oilers were one of the laziest teams that I've ever seen.


He scoffed at that, and I pointed out that on a nightly basis even their coach was complaining about their lack of work ethic.

It also helps if you have the puck. I think the only line (really player) that drives possession is the McDavid line. The rest key stone cop around.

meh that's how it usually works, at some point the home team just loads up and the visiting team plays their slubs.


Plus yeah, the Oilers don't have a lot of prospects that are really NHL ready.
