Lol at the folks who are already making Bennett a whipping boy.

I only saw highlights, but he had more scoring chances than Backlund, Frolik, Jankowski, neal, guess they all suck and need to be traded/waived too?

It's one frigin preseason game, pretty sure most of the whiners were going to complain about Bennett unless he scored a pretty one anyways.

He'll be our kadri if folks here would just calm their 'ish and let him grow.

Im not hopeful but that would be pretty amazing if Bennett turned into a 30 goal scorer.

I dont think we get much in trade though so I think patience is our best route to take.

He's a young centre who is on the last year of his deal, making less than $2 million. At the deadline, I bet we could get a decent return from some GM who is looking to take on a bit of a project.

Normally I'd scoff at a trade like this but when Bergevin is involved you just have to wonder about the possibility...

How many GMs would be taking on a project at the trade deadline, unless the return is a rental? Trading a young natural centre with NHL experience and years of team control for a rental would be terrible asset management for the Flames unless they believed they were a lock to win the Cup this year.

Unfortunately, they aren't.

Bennett has been a great playoff performer so far in his short career. If he was moved at the deadline. i wouldn't be surprised if it's a decent return. 2nd++. That being said, flames have to keep him. Guy was arguably our best bottom six forward during an awful season, playing a garbage slow system. While playing with a tweener grinder in Hathaway most of the season.

He had a good game too.

If Bennett is viewed, as some here would say, as a "project", then he's not someone a contender would look to pick up at the deadline. On the other hand, if he's a solid playoff performer, then he's exactly the kind of player you don't trade away if you're in the race. Anyway, if the Flames are in it at the deadline, it makes little to no sense to give up a current roster player with lots of remaining team control for a future draft pick, especially a late 2nd rounder. This isn't like trading Glencross as a rental at the deadline in the final year of his contract before he was a UFA.

Bennett is not good as of right now it's up to him to show it. Dube looks way better and he is fast.

Dube isn't going to beat out Bennett for a roster spot.

But he might beat out mangiapanne, Hathaway, Lazar and Foo, though I also thought Foo looked good enough for the bigs.

I have been less impressed with Foo's overall game, and am starting to think that he won't live up to the hype. He seemed to think that he would make the big team straight out of college, but IMO he is trending toward becoming a career tweener.

On the other hand, Dube is looking like a beauty and now tops my list of competitors for the 12th forward spot.

A lot of people are talking about this being a do or die year for Bennett. I would say that this is more true for Lazar. He has been pushed down the depth chart by the additions of four top 9 forwards in Lindholm, Neal, Czarnik, and Ryan, and will be pushed hard for 4th line minutes by players from the farm like Dube and Mangiapane who are driving hard to crack the lineup. If Lazar doesn't really impress early and the Flames don't see him as the best player to be sitting on the bench as an extra forward, then he could well be waived by the end of training camp.

Gaudreau - Monahan - Czarnik

Modeled after the Gaudreau Monny Hudler line. A skilled playmaker who can think the game like the other two. I have only seen one game but from the Marchessault comparisons I would be interested to see him get a shot on this line and I like what it does to the depth of the other lines.

Tkachuk - Lindholm - Neal

This would return Lindholm to his preferred spot in the middle and he can be a set up man and defensive conscience. Tkachuk drives the play and controls the puck with Neal having the other 2 doing a lot of heavy lifting while he is the trigger man.

Dube - Backlund - Frolik

First, I think Dube is too good to keep off the team. I also like this line as a training ground for talented rookies where they learn the game with two excellent professionals in Backlund and Frolik. This line would face the top lines of other teams.

Bennett - Jankowski - Ryan

The thinking here is that Ryan will provide a faceoff option on his strong side and an upgrade in skill over Hathaway. These guys and the Gaudreau line could be deployed in the offensive zone more often and I think there is enough skill here that they would be winning those 4th line matchups.

Giordano - Brodie

A no brainer. It was great to see Brodie back on the right side and with Gio. I think Gio's numbers will bounce back.

Hanifin - Hamonic

Strong skating big guy with some skill paired with a physical partner. Hopefully it works out. Looked pretty good in China. Hamonic improved last year too.

Andersson - Stone

I am fine with Kulak here instead of Stone but similar to Dube, they just need to put the best players in the line up. Andersson is better than the other two and it is his time to play a full season in the NHL. I have little doubt he will be in the top 4 as early as next season.

Smith
Gillies

Or Rittich... who knows. They both seem to have holes in theif game. Hopefully Parsons has a great year in the AHL.

I don't think 4th line duties in the NHL with PK responsibilities are necessarily worse than 1st line all-situations in the AHL. Not with the way Peters seems to want to roll his lines. The bottom line are more likely to see 10 minutes of ice time than the plugs who played 4 min a game in times gone by.

Gaudreau was surprised at Dube being cut last season, which is definitely a vote of confidence. And currently he's seized the opportunity in a way that Mangiapane and Foo haven't quite matched, so he has the inside track on that 4LW spot right now.

Ryan and Czarnick have some great chemistry already. I think a 4th line of Dube - Ryan - Czarnick would be a fearsome one for other matchups to see, particularly if they get the high ground.

I have a bad feeling Treliving is going to be fired because the Flames are going to miss the playoffs because of goaltending.

I don’t know what it is about him. Yeah, he’s talented. But he also looks like the clumsiest hockey player I’ve ever seen.

I’m definitely gonna watch. I love the team too much. And I’m hopefully wrong anyways. Maybe Smith won’t get injured or regress? If he does, maybe Rittich and/or Gillies will be able to make it work? But I’m just not feeling confident.

If these things happen, worry about them then.
