I could see Dube overtaking Hathaway for that final spot. Hathaway then is extra forward.

Wouldn't be surprised if the Flames did the exact same thing with Dube that they did with Jankowski last year. Send him down, watch him light up the AHL, call him up by game 10. Rest assured, Dube wil light up the AHL if sent down.

I would really rather Dube play 20 minutes per game in Stockton than 9 minutes per game in Calgary.

Everyone's beating the same drum here, Dube's shown to be dynamic in rookie camp and 1 game of of the "big club" preseason which was only a very slim NHL roster if one at all.
But are we forgetting that this is the same Dube that made it to the LAST cut of main camp last year? Where he played lights out and made an impression not only on our terrible coach GG but also on Johnny who verbally expressed to the media that he was surprised Dube was cut?
There's a lot of excitement around the kid, as a Flames fan I think its fantastic to be able to be super hopeful and upbeat on a 2nd round pick that may turn out to be a home run if he can keep it up.
I get that people want to be reserved, but there's no doubt in my mind that this kid is the real deal and I personally hope he steals a spot this year. At first I too was hesitant and part of the majority group who thinks having Dube be #1C in the AHL is better than bottom 6 in the NHL but I've changed my mind.
I think the Flames forward group this year lends itself to be more of a 1a/1b and 3a/3b instead of the standard 1/2/3/4 where the the 4th line gets very little minutes. I think your top 2 lines get the lions share of offensive starts and big PP minutes but I feel our 3a/3b lines should equally split 13-15 minutes of playing time and Dube's skill set based on 2 years of viewing to me slots in perfectly.
Normally I'm about as pessimistic as they come, but in this case I cant help but be optomistic as it would be a great hometown story here as a Cochrane kid which normally doesn't mean much but based on what he's shown thus far I'm truly pulling for him.
If he makes the team I'm buying a Dube 3rd Jersey - Quote it.

I predict he will make the team, and not only that, I could see 600 goals and 1300 points easily.

The thing about this kid is that he looks great WHEREVER he is playing. All he does is look good at whatever level he is asked to play at. This is a very good sign and I'm starting to get pumped about him.

I think we need to not get ahead of ourselves ... Dube scored two pretty iffy goals last night, and had the extra game against the Oilers skeleton prospect (suspect) crew.
Mangiapane was the better player last night in most measures, but didn't get the puck past the puck board the Oilers had in net.
Bottom line for me is nothing as of yet matters as the level of competition is irrelevant. I think the Canuck's game on Wednesday is the start of actually seeing who can do what.
Hate to put the breaks on but my old man history has Tkaczuk and Fata lighting it up in early games in 1997 burned into it.

Lazar and Hathaway aren't playing against rookies or AHL squads. Let's see how Dube does against stiffer competition before making the call

### <-- *edit seriously? Can't Q F T ?
I've been firmly in the front seat of the DD bandwagon for a while, and it seems everytime a) I've had a few drinks and b) Dube does really well, I purchase a jersey.. I really can't afford another US$ Stockton shirt so here's hoping for a opening day roster spot
Oh yes, I fulfilled both factors last night, and have a black jersey on the way and will be ordering a game worn Flames as soon as it's possible

Dube 42 would rival Dumba 55 in hilarious name/number combos.

But in all seriousness, we have to wait for the end of pre-season, as everyone's rosters firm up and he gets time (like someone said earlier) WITH nhl players and AGAINST nhl players.. If he absolutely shines, I hope they make room but I see the Janko path coming up.. a month max in Stockton and he replaces the weakest link here sooner than later

Yeah but it's becoming a pattern though:
Juniors - great play
Last years training camp - great play
Last years preseason - great play
Last years ahl stint - great play
This years rookie games - great play
This years preseason - great play
Even Bob freakin Stauffer is talking him up.
