I would say that Better Call Saul is better crafted at this point, but the overall story isn't as good yet, which is expected since it's not complete. The side characters are better in Better Call Saul in my opinion, but Breaking Bad was really central on two characters so it's not an apples to apples comparison.

When the arcs are done we can compare more fairly, but Breaking Bad does have that final season dragging it down in my books. So it's very likely that I will consider Saul a better show by the end.

Just so I don't have to watch it again, was one of the kids who rolled Jimmy the kid that Kim managed to get the four month probation deal for?

I don't know if it's better in quality, but like others have said I like the characters a lot more. Saul was always my favourite part of BB. Hopefully Huell and Kuby (Bill Burr) make an appearance soon.

Well Huell's already appeared in BCS once.

This episode didn't do much for me. Great opening, but then nothing really grabbed me. I don't get Kim's change and the cell phone hustling didn't do anything for me

I liked the cell phone hawking bit, just more proof that Jimmy can't seem to take the regular job with an easy paycheck, he always has to be hustling or scamming for a quick buck, kind of like a adrenaline addiction. When he got out of the car to sell to the bikers he knew it was a bad idea but he just couldn't resist the urge to make the impossible sale. After he sold the phones he should have known better than to hang out with a pocket full of cash but he had to celebrate his moment munching a hot dog. This to me is all little bricks in the wall that lead to the creation of Saul.

I also liked the Gus/Mike part. The first guy was all "no problem, yes" and he gets dumped off with a plane ticket. I've dealt with lots of people like that who promise the moon but you know they are full of crap.

Great to see Chuck in a flashback - Kim was impressed by Chuck, so Jimmy decided to study law to impress Kim.

Kim wants to a public defender but not in partnership with Jimmy.

Jimmy gave Howard his spine back with some tough love.

I think Kai is in for a world of hurt.

Another great episode. Can't believe we're already past the halfway point of the season.

I don't see Gus letting any of those Germans go home after this job.

This show is so awesome. Great to see Chuck again at the beginning.

I hope that is Kim's out and that she doesn't die!

Is AMC only allowed to use 1 fbomb per season?

Kim going into criminal defense? That’s exactly how she’s going to die! She’d be safer in banking law.

I have had to stay out of this thread as I have been behind, but wanted to comment as I am caught up again! I think this season has been great as well and I am one of those that feels it surpasses BB in enjoyment. I just find the characters a bit more interesting.

Watching Saul really start to come into shape has been fun. I think the thing to remember for the character is that it isn't some unraveling for Jimmy into this bad version of himself, but just a reversion to the mean. So much of what we are seeing is who he really is. And in a way, I think that is Kims arc right now as she is realizing who Jimmy really is. For whatever good she was able to bring out in Jimmy, Chuck crushed it all with how things played out before his death. I think Jimmys facade has fully crumbled to her and she is now in a mid life crisis trying to figure out what she wants her life to be. The good news as others have pointed out is this at least looks like her character has an exit strategy other than death.

The Mike/Gus/Nacho side has been cool in terms of how its laying a lot of the ground work for the BB story, but I haven't been as compelled by that story the last couple episodes. I did really like the near death nacho and the brothers coming to town, but the lab prep stuff has been more meh. I feel like if it were not for the relevance to breaking bad, it would be extremely boring.

Tidbits like seeing Gail and Howard falling apart have been nice as well. And seeing Huell again busting the pinatas this week was great.

The only thing that stinks about BCS is the amount of content that is produced a year. I could watch two or three times as much of this show. Though I am sure the quality would suffer to increase the quantity.

?? Isn't she starting the new finance division as a partner in the new firm?

Leaving Jimmy hopefully saves her life!

and Kim, Howard,Nacho and Chuck hit it out of the park! and i HATE prequels. Can't believe Gilligan pulled it off!

Hadn't realized until now that BCS has no dead weight characters, guess they learnt that lesson.

I don't think BCS will ever hit the highs of BB, nor is it centered on a tour de force performance that redefines the genre, but it could end up being the all around superior show. I'd have to wait until the show wraps up before making that call, if it avoids having a weak final season like BB, then it could end up on top.

My understanding was she was going to help them set up that new division and then start taking on more cases as a public defender.

I kind of envision a future now where Kim's role will almost be like Hank's in BB, maybe finding out too much about Jimmy's shady dealings and having to deal with it.

I still have no idea what people had against Skyler, Marie, and Walt Jr.

Anna Gunn won an Emmy for that role.
