I'm thinking that Nurse is asking for more even on a bridge deal then Edmonton has to give. If he was willing to accept a two year bridge at 3 to 4 million this deal would have been done by now.

All of this sign him for 3 or 3.5 on a bridge deal by Oiler fans is a bunch of wishfull thinking, Nurse and his agent have to be thinking that he's a top pairing defenseman on that team right now because its a bad blueline and he wants to get paid that way.

I don't think we see him in Oilers silks until a couple of weeks into the season and only afte the Oilers make the move of Sekeras to long term injury or they trade a guy like Kassian for a bag of rocks.

Last week there were some tweets that the Oilers were not willing to go higher than $3 million per year (on a two year deal), and the rumour was that gap between Nurse’s ask and the Oilers’ offer was only $200K

Matheson doing the team's bidding for them, trying to pressure Nurse into a bridge deal, and trying to convey to all that a bridge deal is the only sensible answer.

The media around that team is despicably partisan

Even if they do move Sekara to LTIR, they will have to accommodate them both under the cap when Sekara eventually returns.

If the Oilers have to make a trade prior to Sekara returning, no other GM in the league is going to make it easy for them. It will be the trade equivalent of a shotgun wedding. Probably the only option open to them is a one year contract if they know for sure that Sekara will be out for the entire season, and if it's not already done, this means that it will probably be for more than $4M and can only be accommodated after Sekara's LTIR kicks in. Signing a multi-year deal and relying on LTIR to cover the cost is like playing Russian roulette with a bullet in every chamber; no matter what you do, you're dead the next time you pull the trigger.

I would have more use for a bag of rocks.

I wonder why no GMs are offer sheeting him.

Is there a code of conduct among GMs not to screw one another over?

So the Coilers defense this season are...

Klefbom-Larsson
Benning-Russel
Garrison(pto)-Bear

That makes my soul warm.

yeah if it was $200k difference the deal would be done.

At the best, the Oilers are forced to sign Nurse and make moves to get him on the roster, debilitating moves.

At the worst, Nurse's agent sets a deadline for a deal or its trade time.

Which is as we know Chia's weakest office skill

Bag of rocks seems like an overpayment for Kassian.

Based on absolutely no evidence, I have a feeling that offer sheets are discussed and offered much more often than they are signed. Most players have several back-and-forth negotiations before landing on a signing. Same must happen for offer sheets, but the loss of assets almost always leads to a more favourable deal from the original team.

Perhaps an offer sheet has been presented to him, but Nurse really just wants the cash from a long-term deal. Can't imagine that many teams are willing to give up a 1st and 3rd round pick for a long term deal that Nurse likes. Best cash probably still comes from the Oilers, if they are able to liberate some more cap.

Perhaps he even thinks that he wants to stay in Edmonton. Not much competition, familiar setting - I can see him justifying to himself that it's a good situation at this point in his career. He could be using unsigned offer sheets as a threat to leverage a better deal with the Oilers.

I believe it's the case, but to confirm, are offer sheets still a possibility during the season for unsigned RFAs?
