Interesting... in his UFA year. I wonder if there is an extension in place?

i know vegas did a lot of great things last year, but that Tatar trade was absolute stupidity. One of the worst deadline deals i can remember.

Good deal for the Habs. You have to think that they knew they weren't getting an extension on Pacioretty and dealt with it before it became a distraction.

Down year for Pacioretty last year, but even with it since the last lockout he's been one of the most consistent goal scorer in the league. Top 10 behind only:
Ovechkin
Seguin
Tavares
Crosby
Kane
Benn
Paveski
Tarasenko
Marchand
Between 2012-2017 he was top 5:
Ovechkin - 219
Pavelski - 161
Kane - 159
Crosby - 159
Pacioretty - 156
Somehow, despite being on the Candiens, I think he's really an underrated player. He's still on the right side of 30 (for a couple months) and if he bounces back this could look like a really lopsided trade by the Knights. I don't know why people think the Candiens got the better end of this deal.
Suzuki is a strong prospect, but Tatar was a healthy scratch during the Knight's playoff run and a 2nd round pick is peanuts compared to a UFA player like Pacioretty.

People crapping on VGK for this trade but they came out of it with the best player and Montreal still doesnt have a top 6 center.
While Vegas lost the original Tatar trade they won this one.

Patches was the biggest bargain in hockey though, he will definetly go FA so he is a one year rental.

I like Pacioretty a lot, don't get me wrong. But the Habs other option was to hold on to him and either lose him for nothing or hope a mid-season or deadline deal would get them more. Pretty risky in my opinion.
This way, they get to start off the season without that distraction. If the Habs are competitive this season and they needed to hold on to him, it seems like there was enough bad blood that he was going to leave as a UFA.

For sure. It makes a lot of sense for the Habs to move him prior to the season starting. Just could be too risky to have him get injured or shown that last year was not the anomaly most people think it was. And inversely they now get a chance for Tatar to bounce back in a good situation where he won't have much competition and therefore potentially inflated stats when the deadline comes around.
I was more responding to those who called it a steal for the Canadiens. They likely gave up a 35 goal scorer for lesser pieces.

Vegas replaced Neal with Patches. No easy feat. This should bode well for the expansion team from hell.
Tatar is an interesting piece. He can score. Suzuki is interesting but im kind of mwh on him.

Help, save, whatever.

I think it's a good trade for the Habs considering they waited so long to trade Patches.
Suzuki is a good prospect plus they get a 2nd rounder. They had to take Tatar to get Suzuki. Three more years at 5.3 million is insane but maybe he can turn it around.
