1) Tyler Parsons - Like almost everyone, I was extremely disappointed by his ECHL results from his first year in pro hockey. However, in today's game, he repeatedly showed incredible athleticism and highlight-reel save ability. Parsons still has very high upside. The Flames need to play him a lot in the AHL this year and coach him into a quieter and more positionally sound game because Parsons has very high potential.
2) Oliver Kylington - When he was drafted, I think he fell because his game was extremely chaotic. Today, the great majority of his game looked calm and, consequently, his skating and playmaking abilities were not detracted from. I was impressed. Kylington and Valimaki stood out on defence.
3) In general, it looks like, despite the lack of high picks in the last few years, the Flames have skill up front in their prospect ranks. Dube was awesome, but Mangiapane and Foo also looked great. The Gawdin, Phillips and Pollock line was very good too. Ruzicka also flashed ability. I think this bodes well for Stockton. I also have to say I disagree with Peter Loubardias. I think Phillips should play in Stockton this year and not go back to junior.
4) The best players were the best players. Dube, Mangiapane, Kylington, Valimaki and Parsons all stood out.

I learned something new about Tyler Parsons from perusing the other board:

"I think Parson will be interesting to watch going forward. Played well today but really relies on atheism."
Who knew?

Dumb question: Is this actually considered a pre-season game? It keeps saying "X goal of the pre-season" when someone scores. I thought this was just an exhibition thing like the Penticton tourney.
It depends which fanbase. We don't consider it a preseason game but if Edmonton had won they would've added it to the 'streak'. Given that they didn't, they'll claim they didn't care.
Flames played well. Hard to gauge some of their performances though because the Oilers were just brutal. Their d-men do literally nothing except occupy space on the ice. Those dinguses are going to go through yet another re-re-re-build.
