I also like the idea of Carrick managing. He's calming, smart, and well spoken.
May be a bit early for him yet but I feel he'd at least be better than Mourinho.

I don’t think so. well, Nicky maybe... but he’d sewer his career with the club.
The rest either wouldn’t care, had their chance, and ultimately all of them respect Carrick. The opposite really, I think they’d rally behind him.
Quite an odd opinion, considering he’s never polarized or offended any of them.

oh I'm sure they respect him and would be happy for him. Just saying they'd scratch their heads after Giggs wasn't given a chance (thank god). I'd also be sceptical, I'd hate to see a club legend fail. For every Zidane there's ten Seedorfs.
if he's up for it, Zidane is the only right call here.

Maybe we should have gotten Shaw instead of Mkhitaryan...
In regards to the next United manager, I think the club may benefit from a stabiliser. Someone that may not win the league or CL but provides stability and completes the first phase of a long-term plan. The club's financial might allows it to complete short cycles of success and failure but I feel it needs a hard reset.

I'd love to see Jardim at United. Proven at developing elite talent, has shown he doesn't need big money to produce a top side, plays a highly enjoyable style. Might take a couple years for him to establish a baseline, but I think he could be highly successful there.

I don't really disagree about them needing some stability after this, but honestly, would supporters accept that? Everyone wants speedy success these days and "progress" isn't even really accepted beyond a season or so. Patience isn't exactly rewarded. I'm not saying I agree with that, but it seems to be the way of the world.
Look no further than Arsene Wenger. He won something like 3/4 FA Cups and yeah things weren't going great in the league and CL, but that's not exactly pathetic. Then you have Van Gaal...he won the FA Cup and everyone knew that wasn't enough to save him. I realise that people didn't love the style of play under him, and of course that's a factor, but the truth is people are impatient for league wins and CL wins.

If your style of play sucks, you better be successful.
If you aren't successful, you better have attractive football.
If you your style of play sucks and you aren't successful, you'll find yourself in a situation like Mourinho at the moment.

In fairness and all Pints of Wine aside, with Fellaini and Lukaku up front just lobbing balls at them might not be the worst strategy one could employ.
But yeah, as Devo said, you have to have one or the other. Fans will tolerate boring play as long as it brings success which basically sums up Mourinho's entire career, but they're not going to tolerate boring play without the success for all that long.
That gets you Louis Van Gaal.

The absolute worst part of Mourinho is he has no excuses to play so negative. It's not like he's coaching Huddersfield, he has the bankroll and existing talent to play positive, attacking football. He's just living off his previous accomplishments as justification for his tactics. The game has evolved, and he simply has not.

I agree.
Also think he just brings a sense of stability.
That is the one thing that Mourinho never brings to a club ... even when things are going good under him things don't seem stable. And it always feels like things can just go off the rails at any point.

^ quite a few all-Premier-League matches there. It will be interesting to see who takes it seriously and who puts out their kids.

And to be kind of fair to him, that back pass for Van Dijk was shocking.
