If Bennett has a breakout season I think at least one of Stone/Frolik will have to go. Hopefully Bennett earns a 6 year $4M per deal. Tkachuk could be 7x7 and I can see Treliving looking to add a high prices big name goalie unless Gillies/Rittich/Parsons have a monster year and they sign Smith for 2 more years at $3M per and go with the young guy

This is a great deal imo, we will see what kind of player he becomes.

The bottom line is that those Neal and Ryan contracts have to pay off. The Flames need to win now. This is no longer a next season team.

I'm not overly concerned with Bennett. He's still an rfa next year, and barring a monster breakout year (or bust) I think he hits close to 45-50 points. He likely settles on a 1 year 'show me again' deal or another bridge deal (couple years at 3-4 million per year)

Really enjoy listening to Tre’s insight.

Maybe it is a total coincidence but interesting none the less. The Flames are currently paying $2.4M for buy outs, and their current cap space is 2.59M.

Sounds like someone has trelenvy. So funny coming from an org with their recent contract signings.
Might be worth pointing out if hanifin were 30, but hes 21. He knows deep down it'll be a bargain in short order.
A less proven Nurse will sign for more, then we'll see how vocal he is about where that one ranks.

Why? He was awesome last year. Some goalies can still bring it into their late 30s.

He definitely stole some games for us early on but overall, played as many expected he would - an average save percentage and predictably injured for a good chunk of time. It's not likely to get much better over the next 2-3 years either...

I keep seeing on another site all these Oiler fans saying how Hanifin is -53, and only played as a 5-6 defenseman in Carolina. Going on to say how we got fleeced, and that our defense was bad before, and now will be terrible. I figure that they know how good this player is and is looking for anything to disparage the trade. Oiler fans...

no other way of explaining how they keep thinking how great their team is when they aren't

They can’t even recognize the crap on their own team, how are they going to recognize it on another team?

So true. I really feel it's just sour grapes to be honest.

I think Oiler fans disparaging Hanifin are doing it out of a sense of panic.
Its not, he's not good, he was minus 50 something.
Its
Please god, don't be good, I mean he was minus 50 something on a team with bad goaltending.
I mean Treliving goes out and improves his team, Chia basically signs a couple of nothings and sits on his hands and prays for the luck that we as Oiler fans deserve.
