Great deal for Hanifin and the Flames. Term is perfect for the team and Hanifin should like the aspect he has a secure future.
Caphit I think is fair for both sides as it was the popular consensus this deal would likely end up somewhere between 4-5m per.
Really glad this final roster piece is now in place.
Flames have no player distractions going into the preseason.

Really solid contract. Hanifin and Lindholm both signed for 6 years at $9.8M is a great deal for the Flames. I liked the trade initially, and now love it even more with the term and cap hits on the contracts Treliving signed.
Dougie was a core player that we paid a fairly steep price to pay for a rebuilding team. Ferland was a player that we drafted and developed over several years. At the end of the day though he is a year away from his best chance at s payday. Fox was a 3rs rounder that elevated his game to that of a 1st round pick. He was a good piece but had no plans on signing with Calgary.
Treliving acquires 2 players who were younger and had a higher draft pedigree. Landing 2 former .5th overall picks was an exciting return for Flames fans. I am really glad he signed both to 6 year deals. He moved out some important pieces but acquired 2 key core players moving forward.

If Gillies could ever make the team and become a solid goaltender the Flames would have a solid core of young US born players.

Great to head into training camp with a full roster and ready to go. Paying a lot for potential here, but that’s what the modern NHL is all about.
I was out for a fantasy football draft with a bunch of Oilers fans tonight when this news broke. They were all pretty impressed with this deal. I think there is some Treliving jealousy going on in northern Alberta this summer.

Soooooo... when does Tkachuk re-sign?
Just kidding. Nice to see it finally get done -- numbers seem pretty reasonable to me. Hope he continues to develop -- seems like he's got a good attitude and will fit in well with our young core for years to come.

Let’s get this season started. Love this. Can’t wait for this guy to be a stud for the flames and soon. Another great contract by Tre.

That's his kinda contract.

Edit: Decimal wasn't detected initially. Literally thought someone told you it would be 8+ mil.

great news to wake up to. Never in doubt really, but glad it's official well before preseason. Hoped for 7 years, but this is a sweet deal too.
pumped for the upcoming season. Tre's killed it this offseason, can't wait to finally see this team on the ice.

That is about $500k less of an an average salary than I thought it would be. Very happy to have him on board. I know his ice-time was a little low, but he is really young and has shown some great promise. He is clutch and seems like a good leader.
I was getting a little anxious about the signing taking a while. I know it doesn't always mean anything, but he is a player I really like and I would have been really sad if there was an issue.

As usual top notch RFA work by Treliving, I thought $5.25m for a 6 yr.
Next year is going to be interesting, the only large ticket UFA is Smith at $4.25m. we might be in small a pickle with a Tkachuk and Bennett extension.
Since we'll need a goalie who's the high salary player leaving?

Help, save, whatever.

Dats cheap.
Even if he doesn't improve that contract is fair. If he improves it's a steal.

Capfriendly says $14.1M in cap space assuming no cap increase. $7M for Tkachuk and $4M for Bennett, leaves ~$3M for 2 fourth liners and a #7. That leaves the cap increase for your goalie (this year’s increase was $4.5M). If that’s not enough, Micheal Stone’s remaining year at $3.5M should be easy to move. Added bonus is that it opens up a spot for another young defenceman.

If a young player wants lifetime financial security but also to become an UFA at a very young age (to ensure his next 8 year contract at a time he's not in his 30's), he has to accept a lower AAV.
Yes Hannifin could get more going year to year or signing a longer term, but that would likely affect his next contract.
This way Hannifin gets the best of both worlds. Adding two more years would have cost the Flames dearly, as it would have placed Hanifin in a less desirable position for his next contract.
This is an excellent deal for both sides.

Sure would be nice for Bennett to have a season that puts him in the 4 million range !
