I would rather target trouba than nylander if were looking for one more impact young guy to sign long term. A hanifin-trouba pairing into the future would be pretty beautiful.

I don't get good vibes from Trouba at all. The way he has held out on contracts with Winnipeg over the last few years while putting up only semi-decent numbers have left a sour taste in my mouth. I remember watching his rookie year and thinking that this guy may have the potential to be a really solid #1 defenseman but I'm not sure that is the case anymore. Still a good d-man by any sense of the imagination but not someone that will push a team over the edge in my opinion.

Yeah, I find Trouba to be highly overrated and cocky.
It made my day when Sam Bennett beat his ***.

Truthfully, I would rather an elite star player go to a true contending team then some borderline bubble team. Because a team like the Sharks is already a contender. They are pretty much always a lock to make the playoffs, with or without another star added.
Trading Seguin to a team like the Avs, Sharks or god forbid the Oilers is a much worse idea. If those teams acquire a player like Seguin, he has the ability to push them over the hump and possibly steal a playoff spot from the Flames. The Sharks are in no matter what. I'd much rather Seguin goes to a team like that, over a team who has the potential to steal a spot from us.

One concern I would have with Trouba is that he can't seem to stay healthy.
5 NHL seasons now and he's went: 65, 65, 81, 60, 55 for games played.
At this point he's almost a lock to miss at least 10 games.

They say he wants to stay but wants big time cash, if he can put together another decent season then maybe. He has never gotten back to his stellar first year, lots of questions around substance use with him too (Bogosian was a cancer for that).

Great video until the end when you know who makes an appearance.

Kind of a summer trade rumour article but apparently the Flyers are looking to improve their penalty kill via trade.
Quote:
After finishing with a 75.8 percent kill rate last season - third-worst in the NHL - the Flyers are seeking a new face to add to their scheme when down a man.
"I'm open to it, but it would probably be more of a lateral move on the market rather than a free agent," Flyers general manager Ron Hextall told Dave Isaac of the Cherry Hill Courier-Post. "It would be a forward. We'd like to add a penalty-killing forward but to this point there's been nothing there that's made enough sense for us to move."

Especially since he will likely be a valuable/versatile player for the team this year as someone that could move up or down the line up.
But at the same time, the flames have a lot of young forwards that seem ready to take a spot in the line up so maybe someone like frolik could be available.

That’s probably the best way to go. Especially since the 3M line still might be a thing if none of the new guys are as much of a fit with tkachuk to start the year.
I imagine the first choices for penalty killers for the flames right now would be backlund-frolik, jankowski-Ryan, and maybe lazar/Hathaway.

I think Lindholm is quite the penalty killer as well.

Forgot about him as well. He probably slots in with Ryan then. Meaning the last 2 PK spots for janko and lazar probably.

I'd prefer Lindholm as well, and Bennett to go with him. I also think they'd do quite well together even outside of the PK.

I don’t really know what a guy like frolik would bring back in trade though. Maybe a 2nd round pick? Doubtful that would be worth it except that it gives the flames some extra assets that could be used at the trade deadline to acquire a rental player for a playoff drive if the flames are in a good spot.
I do think there are a few players that are ready to take frolik’s spot on the 2nd line and on the penalty kill though. But it would be a risk to do it before knowing if anyone fits with backlund and Tkachuk as well as frolik has. I’m hoping someone steps up that could provide more offensive punch than frolik. There are lots of guys to choose from now that could give it a shot: Neal, Lindholm, Czarnik, Ryan, Foo, and Bennett to name a few.

Cap space. Not to sound flippant but that would be the most gained from a Frolik deal I would think.

You don’t move Frolik until Mangiapane, Klimchuk, Foo, etc take that spot from Frolik.
I find it hard to believe that one of them would, Frolik’s game is so underrated around here. I think he plays out his contract in Calgary.

Cap structuring may not allow Frolik to stay. Even if they move out Stone and Frolik itll be tight next year.
