Tallon picking up all the cast-offs this year. First Hoffman and now this. I hope this works out well, but I'm not counting on it at all.

I guess it pushes Michael Haley out of the lineup, which isn't a terrible thing, but at least Haley stood up for his teammates, something that I'm not confident in Brouwer doing.

Panthers forward depth is a little weak, so I get it from an asset perspective, but I don't know why anyone would look at Brouwer's last two years and say "sign me up!".

Huberdeau-Barkov-Dadonov
Hoffman-Trocheck-Bjugstad
McGinn-McCann-Malgin
Sceviour-McKenzie-Brouwer
Extras: Haley/Vatrano

4th line Brouwer at $1M for 1 year isn't the end of the world for Florida.

4th line Brouwer making $4.5M is what the issue was.

I'm not so sure 4th line is where you want a guy who is near the end of his career. That's where your young hungry players should be, or guys with a specific skill who need to round out their game.

I'm surprised he got a contract.

Chris Johnston @reporterchris
Troy Brouwer's one-year deal with the #FlaPanthers will pay him $850,000. It's a one-way contract.

If it pushes Haley out of the lineup then that's enough for this to be an ok signing. Haley did stand up for his teammates but was useless in any other way. I don't think Brower on the fourth line is going to hurt the team.

Brouwer at any price was a worse player than those he was taking opportunities away from, at the behest of a coach who handed him everything for no reason. THAT'S what the issue was.

Who knows if he works out in Florida, but at least they can say they won't have Gulutzan spoon-feeding him minutes he doesn't deserve.

Well this is probably the right amount of money for a fringe NHL player.

Wish Troy all the best in Florida. 850 K is a great price for him if he can rebound and get back to being a productive player.

That is a massive IF

I wouldn't want him on the Flames even at that price

The issue with Brouwer was that he was making 4.5 M and probably wasn't gonna make the team this year.

The 'A' on his jersey was probably an issue as well but he's not going to have that in Florida nor will he have much of a fanbase or media that cares if he plays up to the level of his contract. He may have a bit of a bounce back season playing with no expectations in a market that doesn't care much about NHL hockey but I wouldn't expect him to turn back into the player he was with the Blues or Capitals as he's nearing the end of his career.

It's pretty fitting that he chose the farthest distance franchise from Calgary after being ran out of town by the world's ####tiest rag of a paper.

All the best to him and his family. Hope he can carve out a few more years in his career.

I used to be in the "Brouwer is a solid hockey player but overpaid" camp. My view has shifted a lot. I really think Brouwer has a severely negative affect on whoever ends up on his line. He is a black hole of hockey. His style of play slows down and kills every play. This is extremely damaging for young players who are trying to develop skills and gain confidence.

Maybe he can find his game in a different system, but removing him from the Flames' lineup was addition by subtraction.
