I like to think to myself that whenever Edmonton contracts comes up during negotiations he raises a hand to pause the other party and says,
"Yes, there's your problem right there. 'But, Oilers'."

He does raise his hand... but I think you're a little off with how it ends

Yeah but I do also remember such news updates like: Brandon Hickey signing imminent

Except that Nurse should hold out for 2 months. Why suffer with 6 months in Edmonton when you can hold out and cut it down to 4.

Not getting paid for those two months might be an issue.

I’m wondering if flames brass think Someone might make a hard push between Kulak Andersson, Prout, Valimaki and Kylington and this changes something like disposing of Stone and his 3.5 because he isn’t needed now.
They said they wanted to ensure they cook these guys long enough so we didn’t end up with someone not ready to make the jump.
This would make signing Hanifin a last minute thing. It just strikes me as odd that Tre is still making deals not involving him ......unless Brad Pascal is signing these guys who are destined for Stockton and Tre isn’t involved.
I overthink these things allot this time of year admittedly but a sense something is going on behind the scenes we aren’t seeing or hearing about.
I just hope whatever happens we end up with more scoring from our back end as we have always done better with extra scoring from the Defence......we have some really good up and comers to look at too.
Wish I could be more patient....want to see hockey sooner than later.

Treliving said he was confident (or something like that) they'd have a deal done before camp. Thats around the 12th of September, right before they take off for China.
His contract won't hinge on any other player or any other move.

You can't let ongoing negotiations on one contract hold up the rest of what you are doing, the organization has to fill out two full rosters and decided not to sign a whole bunch of RFA and UFA players this offseason, so I would be worried if the other signings weren't happening. There's no reason why waiting to see the development of our other prospects should hold up Hanifin's negotiations in any way. The only thing I can see that may be holding up negotiations is a potential desire by Hanifin's camp to see what some of the outstanding comparables sign for, because so far, TBH, there have been very few who are actually comparable in terms of age, draft position, and NHL experience and production.

Yes, I think you're overthinking it. Sometimes these first contracts after the ELC takes a while. ex. Gaudreau. I just hope it's done before training camp starts. I think it's very unlikely they move Stone this season as Treliving likes depth on D.

Not news necessarily, but this morning on 960 Boomer said that the deal is close, not imminent but "close" and that Hanifin would be at camp.
So there's that I suppose.

Its Treliving. The deal will be done and we'll like it, he just respects the process.
Its a process guys, a process.

Thanks!
If that gets all sorted out, it will feel almost too calm coming into camp.
I love how different this team will be. You can split hairs over which moves were good or bad, but in the end the team/coaching will have so many new faces. I’m most excited to see how they respond to their new jobs

I was just going to post this. My two favorite people. One's a poet and one expresses himself/herself eloquently with one word that somehow suits all occassions.
