Default 360, PS3 or Wii

I (like a lot of gamers) play primarily sports (EA Sports hockey!) and some GTA and action games thrown in here and there. I have a PS2 and I'm pretty happy with it, but I want to upgrade in the near future (depending on availability).

I know that there are positives and negatives for each system, but which system is the best overall for a good solid sports-gamer like myself?

Well, if you're really into EA hockey then the 360 is the only system that has the next gen version of NHL 07. Though all the systems will probably have the next gen version of NHL 08 next fall.

That's why I bought a 360, don't give a crap about the PS3 or Wii. The company who gives me the best system to play hockey on gets my money.

For ONLY games, the 360 is better. The graphics on a new game like Gears of War are the best out there.

The launch titles for the PS3 are only average - almost the same as what the 360 launch looked like a year ago. NHL 2k7 is decent, and I really like Tiger Woods golf. Call of Duty is good too - but none of those games are a step above the 360 - they are almost the same. However, this time next year, I expect the PS3 to dominate in terms of quality of games. Gran Turismo 5, over a year from now, should be the best console game of this generation, IMO.

The Wii is not HD - a killer for me. I may get one just because the wife is interested in it though. Cant let an opportunity to include the wife in one of my 'geeky' oppurtunities pass me by.

But, if you want to use it for other media functions, like I do, the PS3 is a good choice. The built in Blu-ray is nice, because it provides the 7 channel discrete audio. Creating a linux partition, and a dual boot, allows you to use the PS3 as a media PC - a huge reason I bought one. I can move all the divx players, codecs, etc off my PC. Linking the PS3 into the network affords all kinds of cool (geeky) things to do.

NHL 07 was what sold me on the 360 too. There were some other games I was interested in but I was going to wait until the PS3 was released and let them battle it out for a year or so and see which one has the best game selection. But then seeing how good NHL 07 was looking both graphically and gameplaywise and the fact that bundles were starting to come out for the 360 I decided to go with the 360.

Can you imagine hockey on a Wii?

Use the analog nunchuck to move the player and then use the remote to actually stick-handle the puck, pass, and make a varying assortment of shots? You could do somewhat real wrist-shot movement and slapshot movement.

Wow, that will be great.

My brother has a Wii and its pretty cool for the "fun" games like boxing and bowling. I'm just not sure how it would be for other sports though. It might be fun or it might be a complete pain, and no fun as a result. I know when I play the boxing on that system I just flick my wrist to punch because otherwise it hardly even picks up the punches. Don't get me wrong, its fun and I generally like it, but if that were a hockey game it'd be frustrating!

Well I know that ign rated the new Madden on Wii ahead of both the PS3 and 360 claiming the gameplay outweighs any graphical differences btw the systems.

If they made an NHL game on Wii it'd be 10x more complex than Madden. I don't think any company would be able to pull it off well.

My Dad, of all people, has the Wii. He really enjoys it. LOL

I'll most likely get the Wii as well, and wait until early next year to get the 360. NHL 07 and Gears of War are my kind of games. Gameplay and graphics are amazing.

What? Why so condescending?

I'm just saying that it'd be really hard for a developer to execute the moves you'd want to do if Wii get's a Hockey game. Madden is a hell of alot easier since all you're doing it snapping the ball, and throwing it in a direction where hockey moves are a hell of alot more complex.

Itll be intersting to see if they'll be able to master the controls of the wii for games like madden. Expecially with a limited amount of memory to work with

I camped out for the Wii this week. I was expecting to be disappointed in the controller (bugs, etc.) but it's performing way beyond my expectations. I'm not much for the hockey games, to be honest, but I'm really pumped for Tiger Woods golf!! I'd recommend it for sure, just for the new style of game play.

Here are the the 3 questions I have about each console..

PS3 - Why didn't they change the shape of those horrible controllers?
Wii - Why didn't they put some actual next gen graphics in it? (And no, the answer 'they aren't targeting people looking for good graphics'...hell ps2 and xbox have better graphics than it does)
360 - Why the hell can't they make the games backwards compatiable with orginal xbox, especially when they release 2 systems so close together and people spend $100's if not $1000's on games and accessories?

I'll be buying a 360 after christmas sometime.

I also bought Madden - not usually into those games. The control style really gets you into the game and I'm sure will only improve with time. Haven't seen the "limited" memory as a factor yet.

Keep in mind that some of the games for the Wii are ports off gamecube, or ps2/xbox.

There is no game yet for the system that is coming close to using its graphical potential.

That being said, the PS3 and Xbox 360 do have alot more graphical power, but graphics have very little importance to me. Im looking for whats the most fun for a good price, and right now the Wii is winning (still haven't been able to get my hands on one).

I will probably get an X360 sometime later next year too
