Good for him, he is lucky those kind of ridiculous organisations are out there. He is barely an NHLer, his skating sucks and he is not playing well in his d-zone. Can shoot and has some good transition ability, but thats pretty much it.

He was $925k last year and should probably not be getting more than that. Even that + 10% is a stretch. At $1.5M he will be overpaid. Let’s hope they draw against their LTIR for $2M and then Sekera makes a speedy recovery.

We're all making an assumption that this is a Sekeras replacement, but how do we know its not a replacement for Nurse when he holds out?

The other questions are

Is the other Strome brother available?
Do any of the Oilers management have sons or nephews or cousins currently on other NHL team rosters that they can trade for?

Great signing by the Oilers. Veteran dman with Stanley Cup ring that will show the team what it takes to win in this league and that will rub off on the the rest of the team this upcoming season. This kind of leadership is hard to find in this league and he is willing to join an established team ready to win multiple championships.

Yup, his 2 starts in the playoffs will be immensely helpful in keeping with the identity of the oilers, they were both loses.

I think its clear its going to be a bridge deal at 3.5 which is just going to reshuffle the chairs on the titanic.

If I was Nurse' agent, I'd tell the Oilers that I'd give them a discount that would leave them with cap space, but the bridge deal takes me to UFA.

I wonder if the Oilers know that he might not even get his name on the Cup. Jeřábek didn't play the required 41 games or a game in the Stanley Cup Finals so he's not automatically eligible. The Capitals would have had to petition to have his name added, not sure if there's any update on that.

Careful Cap; sometimes there are “other duties as assigned”!

But he'd have to stay in Edmonton.....which is bad.

You could offer me league minimum for a couple years and I would happily quit my current job and go play for edmonton for a couple seasons... However if I had three offers on the table:

-Edmonton $1mil
-anywhere else NHL, $725k
-Go home to europe and make $350k

I would very heavily consider the other options

but hey I'm biased
