$75 for significant amount of garage space is definitely not worth my time. Using that space for oil changes give you way better bang for your buck.

Just keep the cans in there, take them back right before you change your oil, and ta da: easy money.

There was no point during the collection of $75 worth of cans and bottles when there was possibly a bottle depot on the way to running other errands? When I get to 2 garbage bags of empties, I am like, “well, we are going to T&T, I should bring the bags”.

Montreal is awesome for this. Just take your empties back to the corner store and swap out for a fresh six pack!

Liquor stores take empties there? That is brilliant.

Yes and no. Sask used to do that (may still?). Beer bottles had to go back to the LB, and cans etc. when to the recycling depot. It was a huge pain.

Crush the cans to save space and fit more in a bag.

Basically every corner store in Montreal sells beer and takes empties (within reason)

Convenience stores here used to take bottles in exchange for the refund too.

That's awesome. We are so far behind the times here. If you wanted to grap a case of Corona and a pack of cigars here, you would have to hit three stores. Liquor store for the beer, corner store for the cigars and a grocery store for the limes.

Well it's not really double savings on the $1.20 as you get the deposit back on any case of coke.

This is one area I actually think Ontario does right. There are only deposits on alcoholic beverage containers, not things like pop cans.

No matter where you get your alcoholic containers, the beer store takes them all back. One stop drop.

Everything else goes in your blue bin. I however am too lazy to even do that much collection and storage, and forego the deposit by putting everything in the blue bin.

Because of this thread I've had a traumatic flashback.

I remember when I was a kid in our basement we would have a wall of empty 24 cases. Then when my dad felt it was time we would load it up and take it to the Beer Store to get the money back. We had one of those crappy vans and it would be filled with cases. I remember feeling like such a lowlife bringing in case after case of 24s into the Beer Store.

Anyways, in Ontario I don't think we had bottle depots. You would just take your empties to the Beer Store. You guys can't do that?

No, but we can buy a case of beer after 6 pm, so it’s a decent trade-off.
