Say it costs Jankowski, Valimaki, Smith so Montreal has a body to put in net and a 1st. Our lineup looks like this:
Gaudreau-Monahan-Neal
Tkachuk-Backlund-Lindholm
Bennett-Ryan-Frolik
Mangiapane-Dube-Czarnik
Foo
Gio Brodie
Hanifin-Hamonic
Andersson-Stone
Kulak
Price
Rittich
Basically nothing changes. If Kylington hits, you've replaced Valimaki. He had four fewer points than Andersson in 7 more games, it sounds like they're pretty close together in terms of development, and everyone adores Andersson.
It's nothing like Edmonton.

So you're suggesting that Montreal is going to trade Carey Price, 50% retained, for one year of Smith, Jankowski, and Valimaki?
Edit: sorry, just saw the 1st. Still not happening. Not even close.

Agreed. If you want them retaining that much salary it's going to be a bigger name for the current roster player. And then the cap may work out anyway...
That said I'm not sure I make that deal based on Price's recent injury woes.

Sorry, but I have a hard time believing this. Nashville just extended Saros for three years on a very good deal. He is the heir apparent to Pekka Rinne, who has only 1 year left on his contract and have been grooming him as such for years.
This season, Saros will be starting to carry a significant load in net for them for the foreseeable future. There is zero incentive for a top team like Nashville to make this move and jeopardize their goaltending depth right now unless Treliving goes postal and starts offering top 6 talent or a guy like Valimaki.

What about Schneider or Kinkaid out of NJ? (whoever they'd rather part with)
Schneider would obviously be #1. Kinkaid I think you'd at least be able to do 50/50 with Smith... and I think he's well ahead of Gilles and Rittich.

How does 'basically nothing change'?
Mangiapane, Dube and Foo have ALL been given roster spots (and I'll assume Hathaway is also upstairs). That bottom 6 might be as bad as last year.
1) imagine what the lineup looks like once there are a couple injuries
2) the Flames' prospect list, now that you have graduated those guys, would look like this (ignoring goalies):
1) Kylington
2) Phillips
3) Klimchuk
4) Gawdin
5) Ruzicka

Masons' problem is between the ears, such that one could never have confidence about how he'll perform in a big game.
Basically you might as well bring back Moose.

I have to think the Flames are looking at this season as absolutely positively must make the playoffs.
I don't think they are looking for a ramo/hiller/mason, I think they are looking for a big fish, maybe even a 1a to Smiths 1b.
This team NEEDS to make the dance this year.

Brad Treliving has been on pretty much every goaltender moved in the last three seasons, I'm sure he's kicking tires on every option that hits the market.
Clearly they have an issue ... they can get through this season most likely, but from there's it a lot of gambles.
- Can Smith go year to year on extensions for two more years?
- Will either of Rittich or Gillies be ready in a year?
- Is Parsons still an option? Is he two years out? 3? 4?
It's the only major hole left in his build so I'm sure he's looking.

I am crossing fingers that Gillies and Rittich take a giant step. Anyone know what they have been up to this summer? Seems like a monster chance to take the reigns of a full-time starting NHL goalie spot in 2019-2020. I would hope they are preparing like never before.

Rumors last week had Treliving talking to Ottawa. I wonder if there is a possibility of getting Anderson as a 1b. It would mean that our two goaltenders would be a combined 74 years of age this year, but as far as being able to split the net and keep guys rested, it might be a good fit. Anderson with 2 years left helps to secure the goaltending experience level here for an extra year also. Stone moving the other way helps to balance the budget, and might help the senators retain their stone, rather then trading their 3 best players at the deadline.
I wonder if the hold up with Hanifan has something to do with this rumored goalie search.

You are correct that Saros won't be moved, expect I guess if someone made an offer they can't refuse.
Saros is just the guy that Calgary would covet to replace Smith long term, and maybe short term. Of course, he's the exact same need in Nashville.
Valimaki isn't close to a start in getting Saros.

36 years, 4 months, and 24 days, lazy.
So closer to 36 than 37 right now, if that's your point.

I seriously doubt it. He was born in Colorado and raised in the St. Louis area; he played minor hockey in Texas and just signed a contract that includes a partial NMC to return there.

Is Steve Mason still available? Just sign that guy for a year or two on a discounted deal, costs you no assets and likely not much money, either. At worst he's a capable backup.

Why sign Mason when they already have a capable backup in Rittich/Gillies. That would turn Calgary into a goalie graveyard for future picks.
If they're going big game hunting - Mason should be far from the top of the list.
