Will the Jay's make the playoffs if they call him up? No, no they won't so really that's just a big waste. Vlad Guerrero Jr will be a blue Jay... in May.

Yeah, fans who want him up now need some patience. There's no point wasting service time on him this season.

So Solarte might be headed for the DL
Hopefully they call up Jansen and put Martin at 3B.
What a piss off that LGJ and Drury got hurt. If we're going to be subjected to an injury filled losing season it'd be nice if we could at least watch some young players audition for full time roles going forward.

Jansen was indeed called up and it also sounds like SRF will get called up to start on Monday.
Awesome.

Jansen with a single in his first ever MLB at bat. Nice job kid.
Too bad Martin got gunned out at home to end the inning.

I understand that the Blue Jays have nothing to lose but why on earth is Luis Rivera sending Martin on that base hit by Jansen? I like being aggressive but that was just a bad call.

Yeap, it was an absolutely terrible call by Rivera. Never should have sent him, wasn't even close.

With those more in-tuned with prospects what kind of potential does Jansen have? I know he’s in MLB’s too 100 prospects but I don’t know much about him

Reid-Foley’s looked pretty decent. He’s also sweating like Mike Tyson in a spelling bee. It’s a hot one in Kansas City.

I certainly wouldn't classify myself as a prospect guru but from what I have read he has always been a good catcher, defensively strong with a decent arm. Seems like he has a good eye for the strike zone as he draws a lot of walks and doesn't strike out a ton. Also he has a bit of pop too.

I can give a brief background:
A 16th round pick out of high school he progressed up the Jays system year by year accumulating neither a great deal of playing time (due to rookie league short season being... well... short and by having some bad injury luck once he hit full season ball) nor what anyone would call acceptable slashlines. That all changed last year. Healthy and able to get some reps in he also got what is now the most famous part of his Big League story... glasses.
https://www.sportsnet.ca/baseball/ml...spect-profile/
If your looking for a description of him as a baseball player this (in a nutshell) is what folk basically say: As a hitter his tools will probably be that of an average baseball player... he'll hit for average contact with average power, he's athletic but not fast. If that doesn't sound to appealing keep in mind that I said average baseball player. If you find a catcher who can catch enough (and well enough) to be the starter and he hits like an average player you throw a party. He has plus strike zone judgement (he walks as much as he strikes out). Defensively he get's passing grades across the board some concern about his ability to limit base-running but as we saw yesterday he clearly has enough arm to keep base-runners honest.
Eric Longenhagen (Scout and Prospect analyst for Fangraphs) was on a podcast a ways back discussing their top 100 list and said there was internal discussion about whether to put Jansen on it... they were all high on him and thought it was strange that a few other publications didn't have him on theirs so he called some Front Office contacts and they told him that they had asked the Blue Jays about acquiring him and the answer was always a flat "no".

Oh a tiny bit of news... the Seung Hwan Oh trade is now complete. There was a PTBNL in the trade and he's now been named...

EDIT: Since I don't want back-to back-to back posts... my thoughts on SRF debut: I think he needs more work in the minors. His fastball was fine, his curveball is a fine weak-contact offering, his slider could get flat at times, and I didn't see enough of his change it could be a legit K pitch but the fact that he threw it so little makes me think he's not comfortable with it enough yet. Plus his secondaries are all at roughly the same velocity. If they want him to be a starter then I think he needs to work on those two pitches.

Marvin Hudson's strike zone is god awful. He's missed like at least 4 clear cut strikes already.

Jansen was on Tim and Sid today and talked about how his brother lives in KC so he has some family there to see his first games. Pretty cool they got to see his 1st MLB homerun.

Pillar makes it 6-5 Jays. But no lead is safe with this ####ty Jays team.
