Holy hell... WOW. I am surprised he was even able to pull that off.
At 1650 of the third Soundcloud file on the Heavy article, a new guy comes on to talk to Rich and said "congratulations, you did that, now let's try and land that plane safely" the next, and last communication a few minutes later, Rich thinks he has lost an engine.
Pierce County sheriff’s spokesman Ed Troyer said the man who stole the plane is a mechanic at the airport. He described him as a 29-year-old man who might have mental health problems. He is reported to be a Pierce County resident. https://www.thenewstribune.com/news/...216505205.html
####ty part of listening to those ATC clips is he clearly still thought he might land and get jail time for the stunt.
Now - his actions were pretty contradictory to that (ignoring the nearby air base he could have landed at), but still a bit sobering listening to someone realizing the gravity of their poor decision in real time
Crazy story. Putting aside all ancillary factors - risks to property and persons, loss of life, mental health issues, etc. - a fairly legendary way to go out. I’ve flown the Q400 myself, but I don’t recall ever executing any barrel rolls.

And you'll live with that regret for the rest of your life.

I was watching this on the Reuters news app and it was weird...at the end of the clip the newscaster said the plane was not shot down, After he said that a different voice said It did not crash. Like someone added it in on their own. I was wearing headphones I think if I didn't have them on I wouldn't have heard it.
