With Kerr gone, I’ll be eagerly watching to see what they do to jump start the afternoon show.

Granted it is the off season, but the show in its current incarnation has been difficult to listen to with Kerr being the one strand that kind of kept me listening on occasion thanks to his ability to grind, push dialogue and create some tension. Love him or hate him, it was engaging just like it was back in the day with Dowbiggin or Joe Sports.

During the hockey season last year, I found myself tuning in to catch some Flames discussion or an Elliotte Friedman segment and then switching to other programs.

With radio stations around the world available via the internet and data packages becoming cheaper, I don’t even listen to radio programs on the radio. I’m streaming all my listening and that means I have a lot of other options at my disposal. I’ve found myself tuning into TSN radio in Toronto. Leafs-centric which I find humorous and great hockey guys as hosts like Jeff O’Neill and Jamie McLellan provide a good mix of sports talk and fun conversation with the added bonus of guests like Ray Ferraro and Bob McKenzie.

Between other radio options and a whole bunch of entertaining hockey podcasts, I find it harder and harder to tune into 960 to listen to the general monotony of the afternoon show, amateur level analysis on Hockey Central at Noon (hosted by the Program Director!!), 3 boring burning questions, “Are You Jimmy Ray” intro music, and hosts that repeat themselves to the point of annoyance and say “100%” and “goes about his business” a dozen times a day.

I’m hearing through the grapevine that he’s taking a prominent spokesman’s role or advisory role with the Calgary Olympic bid committee

See that seems weird, as it could come to an end very quickly. The Hitmen rumour makes more sense.

Every time a Fan host says "goes about his business", they should be fined $100.

Is it that short term? If calgary bids chances are they will get it, so that is probably 8 years minimum. Chances are with Olympic experience you can probably opens up a lot of opportunities. I dont know how old he is, but all that probably takes him well into his 50s.

If the idea is to have Pat Stienberg host the entire afternoon just count me out...

The guy has refused to ever have an opinion or ever be even moderately critical of a player, the coaches or the organization in general.

Also he is a analytics nerd that skips leg day!

As for Rob, his send off was great. I never agreed with him as the Play-by-Play announcer but he was a hell of a radio personality. Good Luck on your future endeavors!

Olympics makes sense. I mean, if they don't get the bid and the job ends he's the type that could probably write his own ticket back to a radio gig if he wanted.

No way really? I've only seen him with pants on and he's built up his upper body. I really hope this isn't the case as that's just bad.

Sorry to take this off topic, but what's the best Flames pod cast you've heard?

I think they should give Pinder the keys to the afternoon show and let him run with it instead of being the 3rd guy in the morning.

Agreed. The Pinder Report is a total waste of time and talent

Good luck Rob, you deserve all the success in the world.
I came here to say exactly this. Did they get one because of him? If that is what happened then its legendary.

It came off as a spur of the moment decision. I thought there would have at least been some mention in the days before.

I always liked Rob, and I wish him nothing but the best.
