The flames had a a terrible 4th line. Didn't get a goal for a third of the year almost (if i recall correctly). Brouwer was a key part of that 4th line.
That being said, i would love to see the oilers do this.
Brouwer is also no good.

There's a difference between a personal opinion (which, even if you have it, an opinion like this is best kept to oneself) and a front page headline in a major local paper.
I was never a fan of Brouwer as a player or his contract, but from all accounts, he is a truly good person who is being treated like a person of questionable moral character, just because of Treliving's mistake and his failure to live up to our unrealistic expectations. I won't miss him on the team, because I think we have better options now, but that's no excuse for treating anyone this way unless they have truly earned it (I wouldn't mind a headline like this if we were talking about a player who was convicted of physical or sexual assault, for example).
My main point about the headline is that it makes Calgary as a city look classless, which doesn't help to attract quality players to the city. Let's show our true character instead of resorting to unnecessary sensationalized low-brow headlines like this.

I’m I agreement that I don’t like that headline. Troy was not good for the Flames. There’s no denying that. I’m thrilled he was bought out, but he’s still a person and a person that lives in this city. He has a wife and kids. He doesn’t need to be taking public shots like that after what I assume was a tough day for him in his career.

When you have the only two local newspapers owned by the same company, who favour number of clicks and sensationalized headlines over objectivity, accountability, quality and depth, it speaks volumes about the state of newspaper reporting in the city.

From a roster and cap perspective this is the right move, but I can't say I find much enjoyment out of the process. While he's still a millionaire and making plenty of money, on top of likely still playing in the NHL this upcoming season, he's still a person and seemed to like being in Calgary. Best of luck to him in the future, it's unfortunate it didn't work out here for him.
