Not much for Skinner. Wonder if his name ever came up in the Flames deal?

True. Any time you miss out on a chance to trade for Pu, it's pretty crappy.

The Buffalo Sabres will never achieve anything of note.

No real extension talks yet per Botterill.

I think a prospect, a 2nd, a 3rd and a 6th for a one year guy on a team that isn't built yet anyway is a pretty expensive price.

Buffalo needs to make some traction this season and if he wants to be close to home they may have an inside track on signing him long term if things work out for both parties. They gave up quantity and received quality and typically you win those types of deals.

At worst he has more of a resurgence, playing first line minutes with Eichel instead of being bounced around. Big contract year for him, probably looking to get the 7x7 special or higher.

His choice of team may have something to do with who he'll be playing with in his ufa year. You have to think he gets put with eichel.

When you add it all up I suppose but individually all those parts are unlikely to ever produce a solid NHL player. Skinner will likely score 20-30 goals and they have all year to try and extend him. Buf has to be exiting their rebuild and looking to contend soon you'd think. If they are out of the playoffs they can probably flip him for a 1st+ at the deadline also.

If the Sabres did end up flipping Skinner for a 1st + that would give them 4 1sts in the 2019 draft.

The Sabres have been a monumentally poor franchise for a long time now.
To see them rewarded with these young elite players at the top of the draft year after year because they spin their wheels in futility is becoming rather Oiler-eque. Like Edmonton (but of course not to that extent) I have no doubt they'll find a way to continue to suck.

Gotta think that's either plan A or B with this trade. Smart move by them, if he's a good fit, offer him an extension, if not, you're probably still winning overall when flipping him during the season or at the deadline.

Tall order but Botterill certainly has the assets and draft picks to build a quality team. Time will tell.

Any NHL team ever have 4 1sts in a draft year. I can remember many with 3 but not with 4?
Buffalo offloads O'Reilly and gets great draft picks & prospects. Then give up very little for Skinner. That's crazy they have 3 picks in '19 as well.

If he is not hurt, he has to be worth at least 2 2nd’s at the deadline. Deal looks better all the time for Buffalo.
Pretty smart move for a rebuilding team as it gives them some options.

Did O’Rielly ask for a trade? Why wouldn’t they just keep him?
Eichel
Reinhart
O’Rielly
Skinner
Mittelstadt
Nylander
Okposo
Doesn’t look like a terrible group of forwards to build around. Minus the Okposo contract

Skinner is still in RFA years, no?
NMC and NTC are not possible in RFA years.

Skinner started playing in the NHL at 18 and as such had 7 years of service necessary for UFA starting in the 2017/18 season when he turned 25. He has a full NMC starting last season.

Friedman has mentioned in the past that skinner is a head hit away from not playing again. I hoped he wasn’t a target of BT

Sheary will be in the top 6 too, got him for basically free.
I really like this trade, Buffalo has made a lot of changes and I have some hope for an improved season, for now.
