Another interesting tidbit was when Conroy on the Fan yesterday morning said "when there was talk of him coming back" pretty much confirming that there was a chat between the Flames and Iginla.

Iginla with Gaudrea and Monahan would have been cool.

Pure class all around. Proud of the Flames for doing this. Iggy looks great!

Brian Burke said that on Sportsnet yesterday. Said it was between him and Jagr but Iggy had a hip injury and might not be ready to go.

Stayed tuned in to TSN for the Top 10 Iginla plays and see that it’s top 10 hits to the face instead?

I hate TSN. Friggin joke..

Gonna miss you big time Iggy; I fell in love with this game in large part because of you and the excitement you brought each and every game even during the tough years!

And yea TSN is a joke. Unbelievable.

I often criticize the Flames as an organization, but I have to hand it to them that they put on a great event yesterday. From having Peter Maher as emcee, to the speeches by Conroy and Marty, everything was done in a first class way.

I loved Iggy's shout-outs to Theo, Sandy McCarthy, and Ronnie Stern - some of my favourite players as a kid.

With the benefit of hindsight maybe Iggy would have been the better option but people need to remember this was before Jagrs knees were shredded, and Iggy needed hip surgery.

Watching Iggy play Gulutzan hockey would have been a tad upsetting too

GG: “I want you to dump it in”

Iggy: “you can get it then”.

I was kind of surprised by Connie's story of how grumpy Iginla was when they traded for Conroy and when he got put on the top line.

Well to be honest, Conroy is no Marc Savard.

It was Stillman that Conroy replaced (as Iginla recalled yesterday) and he was the top scorer for the Flames at the time he was dealt.

For those that have an Athletic subscription there are some other fun anecdotes from Conroy about playing with Iginla.

Conroy was traded for Stillman, but took Savard's place as top line centre, as Savard was injured at the time.

I disagree. Darryl Sutter can step into most situations and make a positive change in the organization. He has to be the right fit, which is the same as any other coach. The thing with Darryl is he had a short life cycle. If you're not winning each year then he'll wear thin on the players. He makes players hate to lose but as a result of his style players direct their hatred towards Darryl.

I really thought that was a great press conference, Flames did a great job and I really see no way you cannot retire the #12. He just did things, at an elite level that not too many other players did, a true throwback in the greatest sense of the term. He was, hell, still a beaut.

I thought long and hard about Iggy coming back and deep down I think the Flames made the right decision. Hindsight would agree with that as well, disaster of a season and I don't think he would have fit in well. Would have been nice to see that patented one-timer of single skate wrist shot one more time though.

TSN did an Iginla highlight clip package earlier in their broadcast.

And good for them.. any other time they would do a top 10 and they should have; that’s a missed opportunity in my opinion and had it been some big Leaf player retiring you can guarantee they would have compiled a top 10 that player moments list.

The TSN top 10 has been a staple and guys like Iginla don’t retire even every other year so to me he should have easily warranted a top 10 Iginla moments list IMO.

Didn’t mean to derail the thread.
