No? 121 points in 81 games the previous year isn't good enough? Consistently being top 5 in any category?
Sakic being consistently in the top 5 doesn't count either?
For as many statisticians that there are on this site, an outlier year quantifying a player as best in the league is a pretty shallow argument.
Regardless if he's a frqnchise player close to our hearts or not.
Jagr did that in 2000.
He followed that up with seasons of 79,77, 45 and 29 points. He then left North America.
So no, in early 2000's no one considered Jagr the best player in the world anymore. If you want to argue from 95-2000, I agree he probably was.
So again, instead of throwing out one liners, or a single season (As you don't want Flames fans using Iginla's single season), please let us know who you think was the best player from 2000-2005 in the NHL.
I'm not saying Iginla is the answer, but it certainly isnt Jagr.

It's beyond brutal you've decided to be a wet blanket in this thread.
"Best player in the game" is entirely subjective.
There was a stretch of five good years where Iginla was the premier power forward in the league, one of the best pure goal scorers of all time (while goals where down across the league) fought some of the toughest guys in the NHL and was considered one of the game's best leaders.
To tell anyone there can't be a good case for Iginla being the best player in the world during that stretch is asinine, and beyond weak as a drum to beat in this thread. Find another topic to nit-pick about because this is a horrible time and place to be a contrarian just for the sake of it.
Guy was pure class in every regard and one of the all time greats.

Spot on.
I have friends that are die hard Oiker fans that agree with this also. To think he wasn't the best player in the league for those years is absurd. To even say it is saying you haven't watched enough hockey. There are a few guys that might get to what he was, but we may never see another player of his caliber with all those intangibles again.

I thanked this post for “Oiker fans.”

Man, seeing Iggy charge down the right wing, pump his left leg and fire the puck into the net sure brings back a lot of memories. What an absolute gem.
Seriously they better retire his jersey, the Forever a Flame thing would be a disgrace.

Something about modern photography is that it's always looks like it could have been taken yesterday. It's almost jarring to think he's no longer 24 years old when looking at these pictures.

The Flames tweeted out this photo earlier today and as I was looking at it, it made me think that these kids are all probably older than Gaudreau.

One of the people who worked on that commercial tweeted the other day saying that Iggy nailed that egg crack while wearing his gloves on the first take.

One of my favourite games I attended live was when he came back as a King after the Tkachuk-Doughty stuff, and the second Engelland touched Kopitar it was on. He has no fear. Absolute legend.
