The Calgary Flames appear to be closing in on an extension with RFA, Elias Lindholm. Details being worked on but expectation is 5 or 6 years at around $5M per.

Would be very happy with a 6yx5m. 5x5 is too short of a contract.

It's interesting how accustomed to these long contracts. Any contract over 5 years scares me to a degree. I would rather pay a player fair market value in 5 years than risk a horrible contract situation.

I bet there will be a leak stating it is less than Carolina was offering. Whether its true or not we won't ever know.

Letting your player get to UFA sooner is a big risk.

LeBrun specified, saying that the Canes are currently offering a tick above $4 million dollars as an AAV. Lindholm’s camp is staying firm on their asking price, which is believed to be just north of $5 million.

so, if that's true, it won't be lower than the Canes offer in any way.

Can the flames offer 8 years on this because he’s RFA, or is it also 7 max now that it’s after July 1st?

Did he want to leave? I thought it was more the Canes didn't want to pay him near $5M based off his production to-date? Might burn them in the end but I wasn't aware of Lindholm wanting out??

they can only offer 7 because Lindholm wasn't on their roster this past trade deadline.
