2018/2019 Trade Speculation and Rumors

His speed has been mentioned by a few people though so I’m assuming it must be a strength of his.
On that discussion of high-end speed though... does anyone have a thought as to who are the fastest forwards in the NHL that might be available either through trade or free agency?
I’m sure that list has to include guys like Byron, Athanasiou, and Duchene (don’t think Ottawa will trade him though) but I’m not sure who else would be on that list. I’m talking about players with elite speed... not guys who have “above average” wheels.

Aside from untouchables like Larkin/McDavid/MacKinnon/Point/Hall, these names come to mind as potentially acquireable and worth pursuit:
Tyler Johnson
Paul Byron
Carl Hagelin
Andrew Cogliano
Of course, between Dube and Kylington, we have some totally killer speed in the system, too

Thanks. I think Hagelin and Byron are the ones I’d be most interested in from those four because they shouldn’t cost much to acquire. Hagelin seems like a player that should have thrived in Pittsburgh. Speedy winger with finishing ability before he got there.

The return of Byron on the fourth line would be something that I'd definitely look into, especially if Montreal took back Brouwer and maybe a decent prospect from us.

He is already deeply invested in the city and the Flames. If they are competitive when he enters free agency I see no reason why he would not be highly motivated to stay in Calgary.

I think this is because of the way the flames and fans embraced his parents, from Jay ensuring his mother that her boy is in good hands , bringing his parents to Calgary , even this year with Guy the the parade. the way Calgary has embraced his parents goes a long way with Johnny

Late comment, but the word "party" has evolved to mean something different these days.

You're calling for evidence that nobody is going to give you. That isn't arguing in good faith.

NO! Byron can't return here. I was one of his fans from his last go around, but the people on this messageboard can't handle a guy making 800k a year who gets breakaways but has poor finishing not scoring 30 goals. I would try to explain to them if he scored 30 goals he would be making 7 mil + not under a mil, but it didn't matter.
Of course this is in jest, but be prepared for him to become a whipping boy if he comes here.

Byron is in a top 6 role in Montreal.... he would not get those minutes here and thus putting him on a fourth line playing less then 10 minutes a game is pointless.

That was an infuriating time on here. The guy was getting a breakaway every penalty kill, and that was somehow a problem.

He did start scoring in Montreal, so maybe it wouldn't be a problem. However, he will be due for a raise after this year.

I never considered any part of his game to be a problem. He’s a great role player. Not everyone needs to score goals to be effective. Keeping the defense honest on a power play is an advantage.

I always liked Byron.
I always liked Lombardi as well.
You gotta love a player that has blazing speed and gets chances on the regular because of it. It's why even though I hate Edmonton with a passion I still admire McDavid's skillset.

Paul Byron would be awesome to bring back on a 1 or 2 year deal. I’ve advocated bringing back Nick Shore. In terms of the goals above replacement metric (not stat), Byron is essentially the better, smaller, speedier Shore.
