Looks like a good deal from here.

Hellebuyck has had good stats every year all down the line.

http://www.hockeydb.com/ihdb/stats/p...php?pid=144065

Sure there's always a risk with signing young players but this looks like a good bet.

Winnipeg has a pretty solid core going forward.

Scheifele-Laine-Ehlers-Connor
Trouba
Hellebuyck

I guess Laine will get $10 million or more on his next deal. It will be interesting to see how that unfolds. They have so much good talent up front, and they will lose a piece or two for sure in the coming years. It will be interesting to see if they can do well on a cap shedding deal.

I may be the minority but if you need to pay a goalie savior type money, your team isn't good enough to begin with. Personally I've always hated paying a goalie more than 5 million.

Having watched the guy more closely than normal for my fantasy pool reasons, Hellebuyck is a solid goalie who's pretty consistent. Even on bad nights, he usually provides solid goaltending. But on a good night, guy stops just about everything. He's not all over the place like Rinne and Freddie Andersson, where on a good night they'd play lights out, but on a bad night, look about as good as Jonas Hiller.

6 million cap hit is savior money? What does that make McDavids deal? This is pretty bad take no offense.

No. Not even Connor Hellebuyck and his $37 m deal could save the Edmonton Oilers.

No one can. No one.

True. But with Hellebuyck, we only have the one playoffs on which to judge.

Yeah and he was incredible. He had a bad series and 2 fantastic series. Only one team can win the cup.

I don't see in my post where I said 6 mill was savior money. I was speaking in general, goalies getting paid top league money. I also just said I didn't like paying goalies over 5 million as well. So I don't see how it's a bad take.

I dunno about that.

They look pretty stacked, at least for this season.

It's not about needing to pay more than $5M. It's being lucky enough to have one good enough that you have to pay him more than $5M.

Signing a goalie for longer than 4 years is ridiculous IMO

Inflation has hit the nhl. 6 million is the new 4 million. Saviour money is 8-10 million.

This might be the season for them to go for it. Does Wheeler want to re-sign with the Jets or he is going test free agency? Laine is going too demand around $9M/yr. Connor will not be cheap either if has another good season.

I honestly won't be surprised if he suffers a case of Talbotitis this season and the Jets have a disappointing season.

That’ll only happen if the Jets are dumb enough to run him into the ground, Oilers style!

Perfect deal for a team that will be in a cap crunch pronto. Signing a #1 goalie with lots of room to grow and the cap rising to this kind of dollar figure is huge for Winnipeg. Goaltending was the primary reason why they weren’t making the playoffs.

We can only wish our #1 goalie is within our prospect system. Hopefully Parsons or Gillies can do that for us.

Fricking Jets, they're a well built team. Even Comrie, their back up prospect, looks solid. I'd still look to trade Trouba while his stock is somewhat high. I think he's overrated, and will be overpaid this next upcoming contract.
