Hahaha so true!
Went with Dube.
Could have easily been one of a few others instead.

Went with Mangiapane again. Having excelled at the AHL level and given a peek at the NHL last season I don't see how he isn't the top prospect at this point. Dube is right there too, but until he does what Mangiapane already has, he'll be a spot behind for me.

Being voted into the top five of these polls is a good indication that a prospect will succeed. The 2013,14,and 15 polls prove that more of the prospects in the top 5 make the NHL than don't. At the very least most prospects in this position get an extended look. Getting these lists right should be a source of pride for this community.

Really tough pick this time. In the end I went with upside as I think Parsons has the chance to be a star goalie and I’m not sure anybody else left has a higher upside. I’m not so worried about his 1st pro year as goalies often take years of pro development. Looks like Dube will take it and he’s a fine choice IMO
One question though guys, do we even own the rights to Karnaukhov and Rafikov anymore? I feel like they must be UFAs. Am I wrong?

I think Parsons clearly has the highest ceiling of the next group, so I went with him here.

As I understand it, because they're playing in the KHL, and there's no transfer agreement between the KHL and NHL, they are considered "defected" players and the NHL doesn't acknowledge any of the games they play in the KHL. Basically, their clock has stopped ticking as far as the NHL is concerned.
Until either one shows any indication of a desire to actually play in the NHL, they're probably not worth including on these rankings, but I guess someone has to finish last.

Flames might have to make a decision on Kylington soon, either in terms of moving him in a trade or moving him to the right side where there will be more opportunity with Brodie and Hamonic contracts expiring soon. He's going to think he's ready for NHL duty soon.
Gio is signed for 4 more years and Hanifin and Valimaki are likely ahead of him.

I went with Mangiapane, but it was close between Dube and Kylington.
I think Mangiapane has the higher offensive upside than Dube, though Dube could be the more important player.
What Mangiapane did last year in the AHL was pretty impressive. At first I thought Jankowski was carrying him, but he still produced even without him. NHL quality shooter and skater. Tenacious and willing to get his nose dirty.
I think Mangiapane will likely go to Stockton again, as I think they will give Czarnik a long look, but if Czarnik fails, I think Mangiapane could be up by mid season.
I think he's a very underrated prospect.

Torn between Dube and Mangiapane. Went with Dube though.
I really liked Dube's year. Big year in the W, captained Team Canada to gold, stepped into the AHL and recorded 4pts in 6 games.
Mangiapane was nothing short of impressive in the AHL this year... the only disappointment to me was how he was originally utilized but then performed on the NHL level. He's my next pick for sure.
Parsons is still a top end prospect in my mind, coming off an injury season, but his numbers in the ECHL and AHL are not anything to write home about.

As long as you have a good group of one or the other. You can certainly see the effects of traded draft picks and prospects in this poll.
As you point out, the Flames seem to have a good collection of young talent, but not sure the opening day roster will be that much younger than the average. It is time for some results IMO.

That and being a 1st round pick.
Out of the 25 slots in the top 5 for the last 5 years collectively CP has identified 8 that we are sure will break 100 NHL games. 5 were 1st round picks. 4 never played 1 game in the AHL.
The other three we spotted were Granlund, Ferland and Gaudreau.
2013
1. Monahan
2. Baertschi
3. Gaudreau
4. Gillies
5. Jankowski
2014
1 Gaudreau
2. Bennett
3. Baertschi
4. Poirier
5. Granlund
2015
1. Sam Bennett
2. Emile Poirier
3. Jon Gillies
4. Micheal Ferland
5. Joni Ortio
2106
1 - Tkachuk
2 - Jankowski
3 - Gillies
4 - Kylington
5 - Hickey
2017
1. Jankowski
2. Parsons
3. Andersson
4. Valimaki
5. Kylington
Guys we missed... did not make the top-5 prospect list in any year but will get 100 NHL games: Hathaway, Bouma and Kulak.
