This is awkward as Paul Baxter has been a very prominent, daily poster here on CP for years.

You didn't go too far, you just admitted how you really feel, which was pretty transparent from the beginning. The "maybe he made it up" comment was just letting more of it out in the open.
I think it's part and parcel of what it would take to try and defend a guy like Burrows, who (as discussed at length) is so far, far beyond just a largely vilified hockey player. He's absolute trash.

I get that it is reasonable to separate the on-ice stuff from the off-ice stuff. I am sure guys like Gauthier and Marchment don't go around Walmart taking out people's knees, but when a player purposely brings personal off-ice stuff to the ice, it shows another part of their character that isn't simply erased because they do something good.
A lot of bad people do stuff for the community, but it doesn't make them good people. Ted Bundy was suicide councilor, and apparently a good one. Even Hitler saw beauty in the sunset (that's right, Godwinned!).

how the heck did these two end up in a list with those others?

And how would you feel if he were a Flame the majority of his career? if he did the things he did, made fun of Rypien and his issues, took cheap shots at the Sedins and turtled when confronted, pulled their hair and bit their fingers?
Would you still feel the same way about him?

I realize Botchford is a helpless fan-boy hack, but reading that article actually made me feel embarrassed for the guy.

My favourite part was where he argues that Burrows was the catalyst of the Sedins’s on-ice success.

As someone who's ties to the Flames consists only of living in the Quad Cities during their 2 year AHL stint nearly a decade ago, I can comfortably say everyone outside of Calgary hates Burrows too. Not because we are jealous, but because he is a dirtbag.

Calling Botchford a fan boy is laughable. The guy is a Toronto transplant that resents having to cover "Not the Leafs" for a living. He's a try hard who usually reports either bull#### or anything negative he can sniff out.
This is the first article I've ever read by him not ####ting on the organization and it actually accurate. That you felt the need to attack him for it hammers that home.

Still the article is embarrassing. It would be so much better if the Vancouver media just kind of let him retire quietly rather than applaud the guy.

I think Sasha Lakovic, Paul Baxter, Willie Plett, Denis Gauthier, and Chris Simon played with a mean streak, and sometimes had some “dirty” hits, but they were not afraid to answer for it when when challenged. Unlike weasels like Burrows or Linseman.

“First article”? While arguing with some Canucks fans about the fan-boy quotient of media types covering that team is going to be a pointless exercise, it is really quite easy to do a Google search on Botchford that generates a list of articles that displays an unhealthy proportion of uncritical cheerleading regarding Canucks management and players. It’s possible Botchford isn’t the worst in that market, but that’s a pretty low bar.
However, I can certainly understand why somebody might resent having to cover the Canucks.

Except he was an amazing human being in Vancouver. He went above and beyond what was needed and asked for by the organization as far as giving back to the community. His story of being a guy who was told he never could becoming a guy who slayed the dragon in Canucks lore is amazing. You guys can hate him all you want, but Vancouver as a city won't. Botchford finally got one right.

The list of embarrassments by Burrows is long, topped off by trash talking a O'Sullivan about his abuse as a child at the hands of his dad.
There is no excuse, and that speaks to the core of him, IMO.
Glad he is gone.

That's neat. I'm happy his retirement has brought you joy. Just Burrows giving back to the NHL community one last time, I guess.

I doubt anyone is making anything up about Burrows:

Nice try Hocke---errrr--Burrows.
There is a history of disgusting behavior on the ice.

I guess we should just disregard all the things he did in this town because Jordan Tootoo's feelings were hurt.
He was a piece of #### on the ice, we get it. The city of Vancouver still will not care.

It’s incredible to me that someone would stand for what Burrows did in his career just because he played for the local team. Absolutely idiotic. I can’t imagine respecting a player like that because he wore a Flaming C and visited the Alberta Children’s Hospital occasionally. Tribalism runs deep.

Is the defense of Bertuzzi this strong as well?

Ahhh too bad Iggy never got to feed him his lunch on the ice, Burrows always turtled and squirmed away. What a weasel.
