Ok so here's a run down on what happened last night.

I left work around 5 o clock, I was itchy at work but I think constantly moving and changing positions helped. I went to the pharmacist and he suggested bactine spray after a cold shower. I heed his advice and hop in. Within a few seconds of leaving the shower I'm almost pulling every one of the few remaining hairs on my head out. The feeling is almost the same as jumping in a snow bank and diving in a hot tub. Pins and f****** needles stabbing random parts of my back every 1/2 second.

With jittery arms and the precision of Montel Williams I attempted to spray the bactine. I don't know if it helped much or just a placebo effect but it helped for a few minutes but right back to square one. It was at this time I started reading about hells itch and that a scorching hot shower was the way to go. "What the hell?" I thought, so I went for it. 10 seconds of pain and a 15 minute shower bought me enough time to hit the grocery store for some peppermint oil.

With the swagger of someone coming down off of meth I began my journey. In the grocery store, hips and back popping at every throb, I pick up Benadryl night time and peppermint oil. A few awkward glances from the cashiers and I'm out of there. 2 Benadryl were imbibed in the parking lot as the store is 2 minutes from my home. At this point Satans Tingling was back in full force.

By the time I get home I'm screaming and laying on the bathroom floor writhing in pain. This is the optimal time for my girlfriend to come home and think I'm dying, so naturally there she is, on cue. The water is finally hot in the shower and its round 2. It was after this shower that things were manageable and I wasn't getting a back massage from Edward Scissorhands. One more shower and another double dose of Benadryl and all was right in the world.

TLDR- My house smells like peppermint oil and I looked like a strung out bum at the grocery store.

I have an appointment with my family doctor for Friday and I honestly feel 100% ok today. It's identical to what happened to me as a kid so I'm not worried. Believe me I'm a huge skeptic of advice on the internet but this time it really helped.

If it makes you feel any better, I took shingles to the face this month which felt like two weeks of live surgery

Shingles to the mouth, like someone threw a bundle of shingles at your face? wtf!

Haha anyway. I had shingles on the side of my leg once, first painful, then omg painful and then a lifetime numb patch (probably because the nerve is dead). Can't imagine it on my face

Temple, cheek, close to eye, side of nose.



The pink part. Luckily I was diagnosed early and may skate away from it. Was probably the worst experience of my life! It almost took my right eye

Am going for the vaccine ASAP if they let me (though I'm way under the age of 50). Sorry for the derail

The vaccine wouldn't be worth it right now for you. In 5-10 years maybe. The vaccine does not prevent shingles, it merely decreases the chance of getting it and significantly decreases the chance of complications (long term neuralgia, eye sight loss, etc). Basically, you just got a big vaccination by getting singles

After talking with the family doctor, he thinks it's just a sensitivity to excess amounts of sun and prescribed me some antihistamines if it happens again.

The only weird thing I noticed the entire time was where I was sun burnt before as a kid (lower back) actually tanned and was not itchy at all.

2 year bump with some news for sunburn itch sufferers!

First of all, I'm a man, and by that nature I'm doomed to repeat the same mistakes. FFWD 2 years and a day at the beach where I re applied sunscreen twice and I'm left with a hell of a burn. The itch started today on my back but has been manageable. I took some antihistamines and ibuprofen and life is grand.

Since the itch wasn't on my chest and I was also burned there too I decided to try the Facebook post about menthol shaving cream, lo and behold, it works! I wouldn't advise it to get rid of an itchy sunburn, but if you want to get rid of the redness and pain to the touch, try any foam (not gel) shaving cream with menthol. I'm using a Gillette one and overall pretty happy!

Remember that if you want to apply a relief gel of any kind, wait ~24hrs after the sun burn happened. Like you would with a burn from a hot item, you need to pull the heat of out it as quickly as possible. Cold water/cold cloth compresses need to be done first. Gels will trap in the heat and leave you with a worse burn.

My father in law, 79 year old horse breaker from Coutts, never wore a short sleeve shirt in his life, could be 140 in the shade he's got jeans and a long sleeve shirt and hat on.
