8x10 is a little on the low side by the Sens, but not too bad. Wonder if they made that offer knowing that it had almost no chance of being accepted.

I think the premise of the thread was based on the value of him with a signed contract.

I have no interest in Karlsson for a few reasons:

1) he will cost as much as Doughty, and though he is currently worth it, the problem is that his skills are entirely offensive, and offensive skills will start to wane much sooner than defensive skills do.

2) the injured ankle is a major concern, considering his game is all offense

3) he sucks defensively

4) unlike LA simply signing Doughty for $11M, acquiring him will cost a significant package, including a 1st, a player like Bennett, and a top prospect like Valimaki (or worse: Hanifin)

5) even with all that, he may not sign in a year (though I would assume that any deal involves a sign and trade or at least prior negotiation on a contract)

6) there was a retired player (forget who) that hinted he is not popular with team-mates. I know some people don't care about that stuff, but I do. Unpopular players cause rifts in the room and I want no part of that (even potentially) with regard to an $11M player (yes, this point is purely speculative, but again at $11M, it's a risk that needs to be considered)

IMO, whoever acquires Karlsson and gets him signed long term at $11M per, is going to seriously regret it. And it might not take very many years.

It won't be the Flames, thankfully. It might well be a western team though.

For what its worth: in a recent episode of the spitting chiclets podcast, Paul Bissonette mentioned that in regards to the Hoffman incident there is likely more that will be coming out in due time. And it won't exactly be flattering to the Karlssons, is essentially what he was alluding to. Some may not like Biz but he is pretty well connected and liked by a lot of NHL players.

They need to be able to say to their fanbase that they tried but it just wasn't meant to be.

I am going to predict the Grease overpay to acquire and his contract. RNH, pool party, Bear, Bouchard, and 2019 1st. Then they sign Karlsson for 12M/yr.

I was obviously wrong about the injury prone part, but in comparison to a 20 year old future superstar, he is definitely aging. Would you trade Tkachuk + for him?

Flames fans seem to be pretty intolerant of defensive mistakes so I’m not sure how they could handle a guy like Karlsson who makes more than anyone. If his offensive numbers regress he’s a guy you have to start cutting his ice time back as a 50 point Karlsson is not the same as say a 50 point Ryan Suter or Mark Giordano.

How about the bros and a 1st for Karlsson?
Tkachuk
Stone
2019 1st rounder

However the D I really want off the Sens is Boroweicki. He is the exact kind of toughness we need on this team after we lost Engelland. 226 hits 83 blockshots and 64 pims in 52 game.

point is you said he is aging/old.
a defenseman is in his prime at 28. not over the hill, and D can play well into their late 30's.
and the fact being, Karlsson IS a superstar. not a really good player who might become one.
I don't think more than a couple of posters would include Tkachuk, but the Flames do have the ability to put a fair package together for one of the best defensemen in the game.

If they get tkachuk we shouldn't have to give up the first.

Tkachuk+stone+brouwer for Karlsson

I hate it but I'd think about it.

Other than Crosby, Karlsson is the best player in the league IMO

Karlsson is not injury prone, but there are definitely lingering concerns about how his brutal ankle injury from over a year ago will affect his performance in the long run. I think the risk is high that he will never be as good as he was in 2015-17. In the end, how much is that worth?

I'm not giving up Tkachuk for a 28 y/o Dman who's had some severe injuries to his legs already and will be going on 38 by the time his contract is done, not a chance.

In my mind Ottawa has lost all their leverage on trading Karlsson now that he's declined to sign their offer, good luck getting the kings ransom for him now.

I don't either but I'm just playing realistic GM. Bennett, Brodie, Stone, Brouwer and whatever picks is getting your caller ID blocked by the Sens after the first call.

I agree Karlsson is a superstar right now, Tkachuk is on his way to quickly becoming one.

Karlsson will cost you 11M per for 7 years.

Tkachuk will likely get around 6-7M for 8 years (Extension sometime this year)

I believe trading Tkachuk for Karlsson is just risky. 28 years old is roughly the average age where players start to decline. Karlsson could be great till he's 40, who knows.

I wouldn't include Tkachuk in trade for him.
