What exactly is wrong with an American wearing an MAGA hat? I'm just wondering as I plan on heading to the US in the coming weeks and wonder if I should pack my Blue Jays Maple Leaf hat as I woudn't want to give Americans the idea I'm a proud Canadian or anything.
It's a symbol, and the people who wear it know what they're projecting.
Still there nothing wrong with wearing the hat. How do you expect southern hicks to accept someone wearing a PRIDE hat if you can’t accept someone up here wearing a MAGA hat? We know what the hats project but in both cases we should accept that the person wearing the hat is entitled to their belief or lifestyle. In a perfect world nobody would care about either and isn’t that what we are striving for?

Can I wear a Nazi hat too? Or is there something wrong with that? Just saying we should accept all hats is totally dumb. Symbols mean a great deal. I don't have to accept someone who believes in racist, hateful things. They can leave my store forever and always.
I’ll be honest that it disturbs me how upset the OP could get about something like this. It just shows that we really aren’t moving forward as a society.

Hey if they want to make a public statement, throw a sign up on their window that says "we hate Trump, no Trumps or members of his administration allowed", then they can openly deal with lost business and angry rebukes on the interwebz.
Then it becomes official.
But if you're going to say its ok for Trump admin members and supporters to be banned, then you're ok with Restaurants and bars setting their own rules for admittance, which means a restaurant could ban Democrats, or homosexuals or anything.
The last time I checked, the MAGA hat is not on a list of banned or offensive organizations, and in the States the Republican party isn't an illegal party.
Look I am hating you guys right now because I dislike Trump and his policies, and your making me take the side of his supporters here.

Umm its a banned symbol of banned hate groups. Show me where MAGA is a banned symbol, or the Republicans are designated as a hate group.
They are not the same thing, and until they are placed on banned lists people can wear them.

I think you need to sit down and calm down like the OP. The hat is more political than anything. It seems you are being hateful on a person wearing a hat that you do not even know.
You don't think, at the very least, that the Socratic method might have some merit in this instance?
Sadly, probably not.

The point is that equating a pride hat with a MAGA hat is fundamentally different. MAGA does stand for a bunch of intolerant, hateful, bigoted, misogynistic ideas that should never under any circumstances be tolerated. If he can say his peace by wearing a hat, there's nothing wrong with telling him to bug off, leave us alone, stay away, don't come in my space, etc. I would never serve anyone wearing a MAGA hat. It's a price you pay for being a dummy.
Still the best way to get rid of him is to jam a cell phone in his face and record everything he says and does.

And I think you need to read the rest of Splits posts.
Or at least the last page where it was AGAIN brought up that this isn’t just about a hat.
A restaurant is considered to be a public space unless its designated as a private club.
Again, I'm going to state that the person wearing the hat in the restaurant did nothing wrong. He didn't act out, he didn't by all reports start debating politics.
If anything the restaurant manager showed himself to be a intolerant person who decided to snap to judgement.
Look it you don't want those people in your restaurant then post a huge sign outside. No Trump supporters, no MAGA hats, its that simple, and deal with that groups supporters vitriol.
But people getting all tied up in knots about a hat? Come on.
I get it with the OP and the shots to his family, but to me he's looking to pick a fight.

Restaurants already have the right to refuse service to anyone as long as it isn’t for a reason protected under human rights.

Why do we need to wait until they are on a list to judge their actions?

You don't get how this works at all. Bakers don't have to bake gay wedding cakes. Florists don't have to sell gay flowers. There is no reason I can think of what so ever to serve, placate, or otherwise deal with anyone in a MAGA hat.
