Flames could actually construct a package with the extra bodies they have,
Depending on if they're willing to part with next years 1st to go 'all in' on this iteration of the team.
Brodie
one of Stone/Andersson/Kulak
1st
Bennett
Prospect not named Valimaki
And if they're looking to include Ryan for cap dump, any way the Sens would take Brouwer the other way who cost a couple mil less? Or Frolik.
Just throwing things out there..

Not that I think he has any interest in coming to Calgary in the first place. But if he did, do whatever to get him.

But this thread isn't about Drew Doughty ...

No. No sir we do not. In no way is Tkachuk part of any conversation for any player....any player. He is ours! He is our player and should never be moved. He is the heart of our team. Really if an American player comes to our team and plays the way he does we should never consider trading him. Guys like him are solid gold. We are lucky to have true hockey players of his ilk. Sorry I am drunk. Drunk and a fan of this team. Tkachuk should be a Flame for 20 years and I'll be happy 4 it

Don't be fooled by the sign-and-trade notion. What Ottawa is offering is one year of Karlsson. That's all the control they have. Value him accordingly.

Believe it or not every team has it's pink slip players, anyone who trades Tkachuk gets that pink slip very fast.

That’s a package I’d think long and hard about if I was Treliving.
If it’s Bennett and the first is lottery protected, Id probably do it.

Well sounds like San Jose had that kind of money lined up for Tavares, so I wouldn't be surprised if Karlsson ends up a Shark. I sure hope not but...

He’s a very unique player - but undoubtedly up there with Crosby/Malkin/Ovechkin/McOiler as a pre-eminent talent in the league.
It’s funny - I agree the Doughty is the better DMan. But Karlsson is kind of an old school rover, and damn good at it.

Karlsson would be super redundant in SJ.
I would definitely do a Bennett brodie package but I doubt the sens would. Or Bennett hanifin for that matter.

Has he fully recovered from his injuries to the point he's the same player? Didn't they remove half his ankle bone and before that it was the achilles tear? I would be a little weary about offering a 10 year deal for this guy.

Actually, since they are the only team that can sign him to an extension, what they would be selling is Karlsson with an 8 year extension already in place.
That's light years better than trading for a pending UFA with 1 year of control.

“Wary.” You would be a little wary (or leery).
But I agree, and the Flames are not acquiring Erik Karlsson.

Sure, if they can get him to sign it unconditionally.

I understand wanting karlsson but i mean does it really make sense for the flames to even try to get him? Finally after a long time our lineup looks deep enough to seriously contend and some of you want to trade that away, albeit for an all star dman. Karlsson would be awesome to have but i like our lineup right now and i dont want to add him at the expense of losing guys like tkachuk, hanifin, andersson, janko, valamaki etc. Also at some point we do need to draft and develop and to do that we need picks. It would be a great luxury to have a player like karlsson but i think it would way too hard to stomach the players we would need to give up to get him

If the main pieces going back were hanifin/brodie, bennett/jankowski, 2019 1st, and prospect I dont know if were really ruining our depth. Were trading away one roster forward (frankly out of two that didn't contribute much last year) and upgrading pretty heavily on defense.
I wouldn't do it if they are requiring tkachuk (as I suspect) but I would do it for a combo of the pieces I just mentioned.

That package looks like a lot but really isn't. The only good piece is Valimaki. Then you have a reclamation project, a late first rounder (hopefully very late), a middling older defenceman (granted your star player's brother) and a salary dump. And Stone and Brouwer make $8M for the next two years, and don't fit into the rebuilding process. I guess they help the Sens get to the cap floor.

Also note that this probably isn't happening unless you're also taking on Bobby Ryan.
