What he does bring is a nice set of hands and a good brain. He can work with top players. He is a strong complimentary player - nothing wrong with that. He also goes to the net hard and makes life for the opposing goalies miserable. That's a GLARING hole for the Flames. Between him and Tkachuk, that opposing net would become a whole lot unfriendlier.
Again, for me it all comes down to term and dollars, but from a purely 'how does he fit' standpoint, I think he fits extremely well.

I think for most this would be the case though. Not to put you on the spot, rather just because I am interested what do you think would be a threshold for fair dollar value on say a 3 year deal? And then on a 4 year deal?

Honestly, I wish Treliving just signs Maroon for $4M or so. At least we will have a big capable forward to support Gaudreau and Monahan. This is the best we can have of what’s left out there, realistically.
I don’t buy this “doesn’t wanna play here” stuff. These are proud professional players. If signed, he will play here. Of course, there are always bad exceptions (e.g. Brouwer), but hopefully, not Maroon. He plays with a lot of passion.

I wouldn't want him on a 4 year deal - I think only players that are core or young up and coming players that seem to be trending to core pieces should be signed for 4 years or longer.
For 3 years, I would be happy with 3.5AAV, or even pushing it to 4. Anything over that and I think it stops making sense.

Maroon at 3.5 to 4 million per year? Wow, prices sure go up in July. I though the guy was semi useless....sure he plays with his heart on his sleeve, but really? Pay me 400k and ill flop on the ice and block shots.
Anyone playing with Conner McJesus would get points.

I don’t want the Flames to overpay for a FA, including Maroon. Sign Shore for very little and be done with it!

See that's still a little high for me. But when I stop and really think about it I think it would be easier to slightly overpay for Maroon if we weren't already weighed down by a horrible Brouwer contract who is at this point a worse Maroon. Honestly if we didn't have Brouwer on the books I would say 3x4M?..... Giver let's do.
It's been a good, not great, but good July1 I think and unless you can get a really reasonable price on Maroon you have to walk away and try to allow for some growth from within.
That's why my number is going to be a 2 x 3M or a 3 x 2.5M. Which I fully expect to not be close to enough to get him to sign in Calgary. Which is also ok.

Is this still an option after signing Neal? I wouldn't mind it but I think they'd have to move at least one body out but I think it would still be a good option.

I'd assume it's still on the table but it would have to be for less than $4 million and would probably necessitate a Brouwer buyout.

I don't think they can buy out Brouwer anymore. That rash he has does look pretty serious though.

Looks like Maroon was a backup scenario in case Neal's signing didn't work out. With only $12.8M left in cap space and two big signings forthcoming (Tkachuk, Lindholm), we can't afford Maroon anymore without some subtractions. Still would be nice though!

lol could you imagine if we did buyout brouwer and flipped Frolik+Stone for Futures before signing Maroon?
Gaudreau ~ Monahan ~ Lindholm
Tkachuk ~ Backlund ~ Neal
Bennett ~ Ryan ~ Maroon
Mangiapane ~ Jankowski ~ Czarnik
Foo, Hathaway
Giordano ~ Brodie
Hanifin ~ Hamonic
Kulak ~ Andersson
Prout
Smith
Rittich/Gillies
That wouldn't even be fair and I still think after this year it would get really complicated in terms of cap structure but still that is a fun line-up to look at.

If anything maroon over played his cards. he had an offer from flames but was waiting to see what stlouis would do. Works out better for flames.

I'd really love to see Maroon instead of Frolik on line 2.

Maybe Neal was the guy the Flames had an offer out to, not Maroon?
Would really need a clearing of the decks to bring him on as well now.

I think it was Neal vs Maroon. Obviously Neal is superior and presumably we offered quite a bit more to him than we'd be prepared to pay Maroon. If you look at our cap there's no way we can add Maroon now. But I'd rather have Neal anyways.
Treliving as usual leaving no stone unturned. Looks like he's been attacking the trade market and free agent market hard in the past month.

Nobody wants him and it's too late for this years buyout.
But can't we still sign Maroon. Then buyout Brouwer next summer?
