Move Stone for picks, move Frolik for picks, buyout Brouwer.
But we would need money for a number 1 goalie too with Smith becoming UFA in a year as well.

The Flames need to dump Stone’s contract, buyout the last year of Brouwer and move the last year of Frolik’s deal.

I hope they did more than kick tires. I hope they test drove it, took it on the highway and opened it up, cranked up the stereo, asked the wife her thoughts and then had a long negotiation with the manager.

I just hope the Flames don't overpay a bottom-6 guy.
It would be nice if they signed someone with actual top 6 talent. If they have to overpay a quality player by a bit, then so be it.

You do if you think he makes your team that much better for the first half of it, and also know there is a high probability of another lock out that will include compliance buy outs. Factor it all in as the price of doing business.
When you look back at that Brad Richards contract, do you think the Rangers didn't know they'd be buying that sucker out with no penalty when they offered it to him?

Since when did James Neal become a ~40 point scorer?

I really hope they avoid Neal especially at 6 years. He’s supposedly looking for 7+ million per year.

Well he scored a bit less than 40 points in the 12-13 season.
Although that was in only 40 games.
Yes, maybe the Flames will be able to use the compliance buyout on a guy like Neal. I just hope the Flames don't have more than 1 contract like that.

I would much rather overpay a guy like Neal than a guy like Brouwer. I'm not opposed to it but it's a deal that would mean Treliving would be operating on slimmer margins as he can't afford any more Bouwer-like overpayments for a bottom six player if you sign Neal to a big deal.

It has to be pretty enticing to play with Gaudreau / Monahan / Lindholm / Tkachuk for Neal. Right?

Can’t see the Flames making him their highest paid player. At the end of the day he probably doesn’t sign here but he likely is gifted the spot with Monahan and Gaudreau or he plays with Tkachuk?
Apparently he was spotted in Vancouver meeting with the Canucks and they have cap space to burn. I have no problem losing the bidding war but if the Flames can land him that is a fairly large impact signing. I would believe the team is actually better with a top 6 addition like this.

I'm expecting some very ugly contracts tomorrow league wide, especially the term. Just hope Tre doesn't handout any NMC with another expansion on the horizon
For Neal, I'd rather give $8M for 3 years than $6M x 6

I read somewhere that Neal has a an american GF, and likely won't sign in Canada because of that. She works as a broadcaster on the golf channel or something IIRC?

OP updated. Ryan Reaves (92, to VGK) is officially gone. Dalton Prout (NR, to CGY) has re-signed.

I'd heard that too but you'd think a $7m job might take priority, or if she has to be in one city and one city only, his options would be severely limited.
Happy wife, happy life and all that I guess.

Pretty great. Neal would turn into a pumpkin by year 4 or 5, so the length scares me.
