That's pricey! I would have liked him here, but not at that tag.
Agreed.

Ha ha ha. So glad the Flames missed out on this. Over $5 million over two years for a part time player. I would rather them take the money they saved not signing this guy and adding it to the Ryan contract as at least he can play a regular shift.

Wonder if that was the same offer that Calgary gave him or if they sweetened it to bring him back.

If Tre offered him that deal he needs a trustee appointed to look after his affairs.

Likely Vegas stepped in and simply matched the Flames offer.

Why is that likely?

Just as possible the Flames were offering something less, and Vegas came back and went to a dollar figure the Flames weren't willing to go to.

If I were a GM I'd say too rich for my blood. It goes to show you that Reaves does bring a lot to the table. Also goes to show you that UFA's in general get paid way more than the value they bring. At two years in length this shouldnt hurt Vegas much at all anyway.

According to Friedman the Flames thought they had him signed so they were blindsided. Doesn't sound like they had the opportunity to counter offer.

Yeah I’m a little concerned about Treliving’s state of mind if he offered anything close to that.

On one hand, I'd be concerned if Treliving made an offer anywhere near this.

On the other, I'm glad that he may have got a division rival to make such a silly contract.

I bet the Flames offered 3 years @ $1,850,000 AAV or 4 years @ $1,400,000 something like that. Vegas matched it but with one or two years less of term. Now Reaves can get the same money but in less time and sign another contract down the road.

Just a guess.

If the Flames weren't given an opportunity to counter offer it implies to me that Reaves and his agent already knew how high the Flames were willing to go.

Otherwise, why wouldn't they come back and see if the Flames were going to go even higher?

Regardless, the Flames must have offered something very similar.

The Knights have something like 29 million in cap space...this will affect them absolutely zero as far as that goes.

Yeah I don't think this contract really matters for them. It does kind of show that Ryan's probably going to get more money than we expected if this is the type of money going to a guy like this.

I would imagine if there wasn’t a counter that the Vegas offer was considerably higher. If it was 300-400k every single agent out there would come back. Not doing that would be an agent not doing there job, I would be willing to bet the flames offer was sub 2 especially considering he was at 1.125 last season.
