2. As a hockey player and fan for my whole life, there is something really cool about playing for your home town team. For some reason, I think this may be the closer for Tavares. Even with the media frenzy in T.O., I think it may just happen and I think that’s pretty cool if it does.

Obviously you don't live in Ontario or you would be dreading the possibility. Leaf fans are already arrogant and intolerable without Tavares.
For the sake of Islander fans who I feel for I hope he re-signs.

NHL Network radio show "Off the Rush" suggested San Jose bumped their offer to the highest AAV Tavares has been presented with (of all teams). Not sure how they know, but thats their news

Hope not. Pulling for Tampa. And roster chaos there.

Very true, Calgary born and raised. Not dreading it at all though, I quite like the Maple Leafs. I’ll always be a Flames fan #1 by a (red) mile but I’ve always cheered for the Leafs in the East.
I don’t feel for the islanders fans any more than I would for any other team that I don’t cheer for losing their star player.
The Islanders had their chance to win with him and bungled it up. Time to move on to a new opportunity. I hope it happens

Im thinking the Isles are out as he would have agreed and let them know today so they could decide what to do tomorrow with him in the fold.Might be mis-reading it, but looks like Toronto or SJ at this point.

My gut is now tellljng me he signs with sharks. Islanders added nice pieces in a gm and coach, but I think not trading for a true #1 goalie was there downfall.

If I was Tavares I'd choose Tampa or San Jose. I'd rather live in San Jose but that extra tax cash in Tampa could sway a guy.

To be fair you spent the better portion of this off season 'informing' people he wasn't leaving NYI any time this topic came up.
I think all bets are off at this point.
I'd hate to see him in our division but would also hate to see the Leafs get him because it would rival McDavid hype. The Toronto fan-base is so obnoxious and entitled after 60 years of absolute futility despite the most money and resources at their disposal during that time. They deserve decades of more failure.

For this reason, I hope he stays with the Islanders or signs with Dallas.
Toronto would be the worst case scenario IMO
On the bright side, maybe we'd hear about McDavid less often

I'd much rather Toronto get him than any team in the Flames division, or even any team in the West.
Big added bonus that we won't have to hear about McDavid nearly as much.
Hopefully the bidding war throws a huge monkey wrench into the cap plans of whoever eventually gets him as well.

As of 2:45 ET....None of the 6 teams vying for John Tavares have been told they are out of the bidding.

What's the cutoff for him to be able to sign an 8-year deal with the Isles? Is it midnight ET?

I wonder if there is an outside chance that he signs with a team that isn’t one of the 6. Who knows at this point... I think it’s SJ or tampa or NYI at this point.

He should troll everyone and announce he is going to play in the KHL next year.

In all the excitement will anyone stop and ask themselves "is he worth it" at 12M plus these teams will need to make some major decisions. Leafs might have one kick at it but I still don't think you win with that D.
