People are missing the whole point of why they would move him if they land JT. It would be because he will have a big payday coming up as well as a few others on the Lightening and right now they have a little over 10 million available with the new cap. Why would they want a player back that will command probably 7 million after this season. 4 if there 6 defencemen are UFA after this coming season and Vasilevski is UFA in 2 years along with Callahan.

Pretty much what I had tried but thought Frolik in there to even out the salary in the trade for the Flames. Not sure if swapping him out and putting in Dube or Mangiapane would be of more interest to them or not.
In all likelihood, while we'd love to add Kucherov, I'm thinking there are better trade packages the Bolts could get back from other teams that would be just as eager to get him.

Flames have plenty of cap space, evening out the cap space is not an issue

Tampa would be nuts to trade Kucherov. They'd be better off clearing salary from pretty much any other player on their roster.

They would probably like to move him out west and wouldn't want salary back. Not many teams in the west can absorb $9-10 million in player salary (Kucherov's next deal). Several of the teams that could, likely wouldn't be places where Kucherov would agree to sign a long term deal (Vancouver, Arizona, etc).

Yeah, purely hypotherical. But I think a package around
Tkachuk, Valimaki, 1st
Is the only thing that gets kucherov that doesn't involve a player from the top line.
And even though kucherov would still be the best player, that's too many solid assets to give up.

That'd be hilarious, even for Yzerman who's otherwise the best GM.
Maybe Kucherov didn't have the best 2018 playoff, but it's a small sample size.
In aggregate, Nikita Kucherov has the 6th-highest career Playoff PPG of any active player, trailing only Crosby, Malkin, Kane, Ovechkin, and Getzlaf.

managing teams isn't a spreadsheet, there are personal dynamics at play that impact a roster more significantly than goals or assists.
If you deal Kucherov this summer you could arguably retool that entire roster for the next 3-5 years.
If I was Tampa I would absolutely be considering offers for Kucherov.

Callahan being UFA is not a burden. It's a bonus at that time. The guy is unfortunately broken. 22 points over his last 2 years with the team, 18 last year in 67 games. They are counting down the time for his UFA to hit.

If he does indeed sign with the Lighting, pretty much any team that was cut from the Tavares signing could afford Kucherov.
San Jose, Dallas, St. Louis, Calgary could all afford the 9-10M for Kucherov.

Tkachuk is a top line player.... he just hasn’t been placed there.

Francis mentioned Grabner as a target. I could see him being cheap and he played for Peters in Spokane.

Well, he's really good at... scoring empty net goals.

To be fair, it's something the Flames are really bad at!

I like Grabner specifically because he's cheap. He never gets any sort of contract security Because something is clearly wrong with him, but he's good enough to have around for a year or two. If you get him on a Versteeg deal it's fine.

If Tampa trades Kucherov, there will be no evening out of the salary.
Tamp will clear lots of room, which is the only reason they would consider trading him.

Edmonton Sun just posted an article saying Lucic is staying in Edmonton and the Oilers have not approached him about a deal.

I wouldn't put much weight into that.
Tre said the same thing about Dougie the day before he was moved.
