Wow. I was looking at potential trading partners and when I came to Pitts, I was like... Sheary would be nice, but no way is he available...

Of course the Flames aren't in cap trouble right now but it's interesting given we seemingly have 3 options with Brouwer.
a. Let him play out the remaining 2 years
b. Buy him out for $1,500,000 over 4 years
c. Dump him in a trade to another team
Just the fact we have $8,000,000 tied up in Brouwer and Stone for 2 more years is upsetting, and makes me wonder what it would take to dump those contracts.
|
Stone is not a contract dump. Not even close.

In my opinion:
Sheary > Ferland
To me this makes the Hanifin/Lindholm deal look better for the Flames.

Hello Mr. Panarin's agent - would your client like to play with either Sydney Crosby or Evgeni Malkin on a regular basis?
EDIT: nm, forgot Panarin was still under contract for a season and not about to be a free agent.

31-years-old, solid defensive presence and good for around 20 pts a year? That looks about right to me.

Johnson will be 32 before the end of next season. It surprised me too.

A 4th round pick is max return for Sheary?

A 4th isn't a great return but they got a 4th and also got the sabres to take Hunwick. That would be like trading mangipana and Brouwer for a 4th, the real good thing about the trade wouldn't be the pick, it would be the team taking Brouwer.

When you consider they get to dump a salary at the same time, I definitely do.

Really Hunwick at $2.2M isn't really a "bad" contract though.
Sure he's not a great d-man but with a league minimum around $1M his contract isn't a severe overpayment.

Am I missing something, aren't they not "allowed" to discuss salary amounts during this time. I understand they do but for the number to be reported?
