Yep I'd easily give up a 2019 1st ++ for a signed Panarin, and I hate giving up unknown 1st round picks.
I just don't think that would get it done.

For Panarin. The BJs would want more than some spare parts. Even if a 1st is thrown in with the spare parts.
When making Panarin proposals you would have to ask yourself if you would trade Gaudreau for that package because that's what Panarin is worth.

Panarin is going to be getting paid 8M-9M/year.

So Lazar wouldn't tip the scales in our favor? Weird.

True, but Gaudreau also doesn't have 1 season left on his contract with no guarantee of re-signing.

As he should and I’d happily pay Panarin 7 x 8-9 mill; the cap is at 80 million almost and the flames don’t have one contract like that so they could easily make a contract like that work with their current cap situation.
Smiths money off the books at the end of the year; Frolik can easily be flipped at the deadline or next offseason as well, Brouwer bought out next year. The flames are sitting in a really good spot right now especially after they lock up two more big pieces of the core in Hanifin/Lindholm.
Bennett + 19 1st + Valimaki
That’s getting to the point where I’m thinking Columbus definitely considers it and it would be obviously with the condition that Panarin is willing to extend.
I just think adding a guy like Panarin would give us arguably one of the most explosive top 6 in the league.

This has me worried.
Just say no to free agent wingers with term and huge coin about to decline sharply.

If Tre traded Gaudreau with a year left on a sweetheart deal and in his prime while the team had a chance to contend for spare parts and a 1st he would get blasted into the sun.

Yes THIS! The only other thing is for a rule to be added that NCAA player rights belong to the team for an extended period of time. I mean it's silly because I don't think NCAA players snubbing their drafting teams happens all that much but it sure seems like it's been a worry for Flames fans a few times in the past number of years... Gaudreau, Fox, Hickey...

Still have to account for Chuckys massive raise he'll be getting this summer. Flames would have a great top 6 but goaltending will be an issue unless Gillies/Rittich make massive strides this year and can bump Smith out of the crease.

I'm pretty open to them pushing the chips in on James Neal or JVR because the time is NOW to start cultivating a winning culture. For the health of the team moving forward, we need to become a consistent playoff team. No more in and out, we can't allow a losing culture to build up with these young players. That being said, the most important aspect of July 1st this year is that no one be given a NMC. With Seattle on the horizon, we can't offer NMCs to anyone.

Flames will still need a legit goalie, and Tkachuk needs a big raise 5M-6M maybe more not sure. Lets say Hanifin and Lindholm gets 5M each. Lots of money tied up when you add it all up.

I am worried if they don’t add a top 6 forward (trade or free agency).
I don’t see how blockbuster trade adds any goals to the Flames next year?
Derek Ryan is a decent add for the bottom 6 but still not adding the goal scoring we need.
Neal, JRV, Perron are all expensive options and I am not sure any would consider the Flames but the Flames may need to consider them.
Is Treliving done trading? I can see Stone being moved, and I can see pieces like Jankowski and Bennett being shopped for help on the wing. Especially with the addition of Lindholm who can play centre.

What about Stone and Bennett to Ottawa for Chuckys brother and Bobby Ryan. I think Ottawa would give this deep thought but would the price be too high? Ryan would be expensive sure but serviceable

^ Zero chance of that. Ottawa has no 1st rounder next year so spent this year's on Tkachuk. He isn't moving, especially for that return. They aren't that motivated to move Ryan's contract.

I think Brady Tkachuk is the foundation for that team going forward. He'll be huge in rebuilding that organization. Dumping Ryan's contract just isn't worth that.
