Canes PP was top 10 last year.
I don't care who they sign. I don't care which players they use. I just want a top 10PP.

Guys, the reason the Canes couldn't win last year was their goaltending. Very similar to the 15-16 Flames. Bringing in some of their better offensive and complementary players is not a problem when they weren't the ones stopping them from winning last year. We have Mike Smith, an All-Star in net. We'll be fine

Anyone else concerned that Smith will be on the decline this year..? If that happens, I don't have much confidence in our backups to take that number one gig.

Neither do I, which is why I started the thread on possibly bringing in another goalie.

But he does produce
Are people so anti advanced stats that’s it’s being used as an argument where it does not even apply?

What this guy will want - really want - is the 4th year.
What Treliving must not do is give him that.
No way he signs a 2 year deal with anyone.

|
Lidholm has managed to produce regardless of who else is on his line. Year in and year out he has been a 15-40 player. Yes, Ferland ONCE scored 21-goals in an extremely favourable situation, but how concerned are we really that a player...
· whose high-water mark is -4 goals
· who scores consistently in all situations
· who consistently posts higher point totals
· who is three-years younger than Ferland
...will not provide higher production on that line than Ferland, and overall throughout the lineup with whomever else he is paired?

Different stratospheres? Guess it depends how you are defining your stratospheres but I don’t see a problem in suggesting that Lindholm needs to continue to improve for the Flames to take a step forward. Lindholm has yet to prove he is much of a goal scorer and it’s not because he hasn’t been given opportunities.
|
But he has proved to be CONSISTENTLY equal to scoring goals as Micheal Ferland. Ferland proved he could score with Gaudreau and Monahan, and yet that amounted to only +4 goals over Lindholm's career high. Lindholm has been used with all sorts of players in all situations, and still has virtually matched Ferland's goal-totals over Ferland's three-year NHL career. So really, I don't see much of a drop off at all in potential goal-scoring between the two players, but Lindholm's ability to drive offence and to contribute in all areas combined with his higher overall potential does set him in a higher stratosphere.

^ nope.
I'm guessing it takes 3 years and 10M.
One might think this is too much. I don't know.
But I do expect this is what it will take.

Are you allergic to reading the at least 50+ posts in this thread that complete destroy what you just came in and posted?
Or unable to simply google "Derek Ryan eliteprospects" and look at his stats?
If you do that second suggestion, I also suggest you look up the Flames scoring stats from last season and see how many players in the Flames bottom six forwards that Ryan out scored.

Ryan seems ok, but he’s in the back half of his career and is unlikely to get as much ice time as he did, so I expect his production to drop. Still can be a useful player but the team should not be filling the bottom lines with relatively expensive players. If he comes in under 3x3 then sure.

I find it curious there's a contingent here that criticized the Carolina trade because we lost goals in terms of the 4 players' production last season, yet are against adding a 15 goal scorer who likely replaces a player that scored 3 goals for us.
Obviously these aren't necessarily the same posters, but I bet there's crossover.

And this franchice continues to meddle in mediocrity due to holding on to overaged players that don't provide much on the scoring sheet.

Gaudreau Monahan Tkachuk
Bennett Backlund Lindholm
Mangiapane Jankowski Ryan
Frolik Shore Foo
I could see another forward coming in but I think this is solid, four lines that can score and play good two-way hockey.
Even if Ryan is signed I still can see younger guys like Mangiapane, Foo, and Dube (4th line C if Shore isn't brought back) make the team.

I still think they're gonna go after one more top 6 player.
