No contract talks as of yet between Flames and Versteeg
https://twitter.com/user/status/1011365928649420800
Not entirely surprising. Not exactly the highest priority at the moment but also perhaps no interest -- although, unlike Stajan, it seems he has not been informed that he will not be offered a contract.

It is definitely time to move on from Versteeg. The Flames need to look for upgrades on the bottom six.

I’m not surprised either. I kinda figured he wouldn’t be back. Great contributor when healthy but last year never seemed to get going for very long

I'm sure they'll wait until a few days after July 1 to see what else they can do. Versteeg definitely seems like a great plan b.

I don't see where he would fit on the team any longer, especially with the Flames rumored to have another player on the way. I liked Versteeg, but you have to wonder about his injury history and how it may effect his game now.
If he would be ok with limited games, I say re-sign him, but I don't see room for him to be a fixture on any line, with the exception of Brouwer who I hope either manages to find success under a new coach, or becomes the 13th forward.

Stajan has been told by the Flames that he is guaranteed not to get a contract offer of any kind?

That about sums it up. Played his part well but the Flames need some new faces on the 3rd-4th lines.

If it was his second hip surgery/issue that kept him on the sidelines, I would say thanks for the service Versteeg. Just too much of a risk for the Flames to waste a contract spot on. Time to move on.

I think the Flames have better options than Versteeg. Thanks for the services Kris. Unfortunately injuries derailed his seasons with the Flames.

I feel good about it, on the whole.

I enjoyed having Versteeg on this team. He seems like a good guy. He contributed and had good effort. I hope that some other team gives him a shot.

His cousin told me that Kris wants to keep playing, and would love to play with the Flames but he also doesn't think it will happen in Calgary.

Versteeg is still only 32, he still could be a good 4th line RW with some occasional PP help. invite him on a PTO and see how his rehab went and what kind of shape he's in.

Big fan of steeger long before he was a flame. Injuries and foot speed might limit his future. Good luck going forward. Flames needed a little charm in the room.
